French teenage sensation joins Paris St. Germain

Paris St. Germain have successfully completed the signing of Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco on a season long loan deal, with a further option to buy him next summer for €180 million.

The French Teenage Sensation becomes PSG’s third signing of the summer. He comes after Neymar, a world record buy from Barcelona for €222 million, and Dani Alves, who arrived from Juventus on a free transfer. The striker was also coveted by many other European heavyweights like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City, but Paris St. Germain have won the race to his signature.

Another addition in PSG’s attack :

Mbappe will now be a part of a lethal attack that also comprises Neymar, Edinson Cavani, Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria. The loan deal ensures that PSG remains within the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. This comes following their world record purchase of Neymar earlier in the summer. A fully automatic purchase option would have implied that PSG surely would have broken the FFP regulations. This could perhaps have invited a sanction from the UEFA. An exclusion from the Champions League would also have been on the cards.

“It is with great joy and pride that I join Paris Saint-Germain,” Mbappe said in a statement. “For any young person from the Paris region, it is often a dream to wear the red and blue jersey and experience the unique atmosphere of the Parc des Princes.

“I really wanted to be a part of the club’s project, which is one of the most ambitious in Europe. Alongside my new teammates, I intend to continue my progression while helping the team achieve the very big objectives it has set itself.”

Mbappe enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season under Leonardo Jardim. The youngster scoring 15 goals and delivering 15 assists from only 29 appearances. He helped Monaco march their way to win the Ligue 1 title.  He also scored 6 times in the Champions League, where Monaco made their way to the semi-finals of the competition.

“It is a lot of emotion and satisfaction that I welcome Kylian Mbappe to the Paris Saint-Germain family,” CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi said. “It was essential for French football that we keep and help develop such a great talent in our championship.

“Among players of his age, he is, without doubt, the most promising in the world due to his immense technical, physical and mental qualities.

“Since his emergence at the highest level, he has earned an excellent reputation as a young talent who is very respectful, open, ambitious and already very mature.

“Under our colors, in the midst of truly great players, Kylian will continue his progression in a way that will also benefit the French national team in the months and years to come. With his arrival, more than ever, our supporters will have plenty to cheer about.”

Mbappe becomes the fifth Monaco player to leave the club this summer. He follows the footsteps of Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Valere Germain.

Author’s take:

PSG signing Kylian Mbappe is a no-brainer. He isne of the hottest properties in world football currently. There is no reason as to why the 18-year-old cannot be a future Ballon d’Or winner. Mbappe’s capture further enhances PSG’s position among the European elites. The Ligue 1 should now be a mere formality. It shouldn’t be very long until PSG get their hands on the elusive UEFA Champions League.
