Arjuna Ranatunga who is also known as a “Fat Boy” is a Sri Lankan politician and former international cricketer and also been in cricket administrator. Under his captainship in the 1990s, he leads his team to win the world cup in the year 1996. He was a key player for his team at his time because then only Sri Lanka started to improve rapidly.He is also awarded the title “Desha Manya” by Sri Lankan Government in 1996 after he led the Sri Lanka to victory in the world cup.

Drastic Change in Ranatunga’s mind for Sri Lanka team :

The so called “Fat Boy” who was a star player for Sri Lanka team is now so much “disgusted” at the way the Sri Lanka Cricket is administered that he has stopped watching the national team playing cricket. He is so much unhappy with cricket board association that he has left any hope for seeing his team winning the next world cup.

While in a conference Ranatunga said that “Sri Lanka Cricket and the manner in which it is being administered and managed is so disgusting that I don’t watch our national cricket anymore”.

The Current Status Of Sri Lanka Cricket Team:

Sri Lanka is currently engaged in a three – test series with India, which will be followed by five one -days and a T20 international.  Sri Lanka has already lost the first test match played against India by 304 runs, which is the second biggest defeat at his home. The second test match is in progress. 

What’s Next For Ranatunga:

Ranatunga is not watching the current test series which is being played between Sri Lanka and India. He has played 93 tests for his country and scored 5105 runs, but now he is not at all interested in watching his team playing matches. He is much more interested and prefers watching the ongoing England-South Africa four match Test Series which England lead 2-1. He is much more decline to watch other matches apart from his own country being played because he is tired and frustrated by the cricket association of Sri Lanka team. He said that Sri Lanka cricket players and cricket administrators are more worried about earnings, foreign trips, and perks rather than the commitment of winning for the country.

Steps taken by Ranatunga:

 Ranatunga said that he would be writing to the President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe about the need for the reinstatement of the Interim Committee to manage Sri Lanka Cricket.

Author’s Take:

Ranatunga has seen a lot of deformation about his team and yes, he needs certain action be taken against the cricket administrators. Ranatunga wants his glory back which he served for his team and now wants that the same glory to be achieved by Sri Lanka cricket players and administrators.
