Has Wenger Signalled His Departure?

It might be something a lot of Arsenal fans have been waiting for. For the first time in two decades, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has spoken about leaving the club.

No matter what happens, I will manage next season, whether it’s here or somewhere else. That’s absolutely for sure.“- Wenger said.

But his exit might not be good for the Gunners:

Recently, there have been a lot of change in managerial positions in the English Premier League. While some like Chelsea have thrived each time, teams like Manchester United and Liverpool have not been able to prove their mettle.

Arsenal have always been in the race for the title over the last 25 years. They have won the title just three times in the last 20 years. Although they have finished in the top 4 almost every time.

Wenger might see a move to PSG or even Barcelona. He has been linked to the teams in the past, and could receive an offer should he decide to leave Arsenal. AC and Inter Milan could be interested in the Frenchman if he is available on the market. But who knows, China Super League might just sweep him away.

In the current season, Barcelona hasn’t looked as threatening as before. Based on the current run, they might not win either La Liga or Champions League titles. This might lead to the replacement of current manager Luis Enrique with Arsene Wenger.

Wenger’s frustration was visible after their Champions League defeat to Bayern. They suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat at Munich. He was furious after the game and didn’t shy away in saying, “You do not stay somewhere for 20 years to then walk out after a defeat like that. It is difficult to take, but I have the strength and experience to respond to that.

Wenger, however, reflected over his entire career as a manager at Arsenal. He took pride in stating that the team went on to win 5 European Cups under him. He has helped the club compete in Champions League year after year, something they had not done in the past.

Nevertheless, Wenger’s tone has given a hint, and hope to many, that he might leave at the end of the season. With solid links of Rafael Benitez leaving Newcastle for the London side, Wenger’s exit looks more believable.
