Let’s play ball: creating the perfect sports lover’s man cave

Let’s face it: if you love sports and your other half doesn’t, life can be tough. It’s tough on her because she’s sick of having her space taken over by you and your friends, sick of the noise and the lingering smell of fast food and Beer. It’s tough on you because even when she’s polite about it, you know she’s annoyed and you can’t quite relax with that stress in the house. You want to have fun but you don’t want to damage your relationship. This is when you need a man Cave.

Sitting and sprawling

In the perfect man cave, relaxation is something you can take for granted. This means you need really comfortable seating – a giant couch, beanbags you can move around to suit your social activities, and a hammock for dozing in. Reclining sofas are ideal, especially if they have lots of extra functions you can show off to your friends.

Enjoying the game

To maximize your enjoyment when you’re watching the game, you’ll need the biggest, best-quality screen you can afford. Building in a five-speaker surround sound system will make it feel almost as good as being there. Fix up some tier on tier shutters at the windows so that you can control light levels to create the perfect atmosphere, and don’t forget to decorate the room with your team paraphernalia – everything from posters and programs to old team shirts hanging from the walls.

Storing supplies

When you’re enjoying a good game, you won’t want to have to leave the room to fetch food or drinks, even at half time, so make sure your cave is well supplied. Having your own bar is fantastic, but if you don’t have room for this, you may still be able to accommodate a couple of kegs of beer. It’s a good idea to have a microwave and stock up on long-life hotdogs, burgers, fries, and similar snacks so that you can always get something quickly when you want it. A mini fridge is also a good idea for drinks and cold summertime snacks.

Cool stuff

If you’re looking to buy a fridge, you’ll find you can get ones shaped like Darth Vader, R2D2, the Tardis, or giant cans of beer. A man cave should be somewhere you can indulge in fun things like this, so why not look out for other cool stuff? If you have the budget for it, the Nintendo controller coffee table is great fun – a functional table and a giant working game controller in one – while if you prefer to go old school, you can squeeze in some mini arcade video games or pinball machines. To give the cave a touch of class, add a beer bottle chandelier.

A man cave is a place where you can get away from all your day-to-day stresses and just be yourself. Done right, it’s a place that all your friends will envy, and a place where they’ll love to join you to watch the game.
