Will We See An Alternate World Cup In The USA Next Summer?

There are reports that US Soccer is planning an alternative to next summer’ World Cup, featuring teams that failed to qualify for Russia 2018.

The list of nations Missing from next summer’s tournament includes the Americans, Holland, Chile, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana as well as the Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

There are always big names always that miss out on qualifying for the World Cup, but this year’s qualification campaign has been especially brutal.

Missing out on a trip to Russia are the reigning regional champions in Africa (Cameroon), CONCACAF (USA) and South America (Chile); Italy failing to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1958 and the Netherlands missing out after finishing second in 2010 and third in 2014. Ghana, a past World Cup nemesis for the USA, hadn’t failed to qualify since 2002.

SI is reporting that US Soccer officials have started to reach out to other countries to gauge their interest in an eight-team event that would take place in the period before the World Cup starts on June 14 next year.

What do you think of the idea? Is this something you would attend?
