The Galaxy’s Mike Magee scored two of MLS’ record-setting 36 goals on Sunday. The 36 goals across all 10 games was a record for an MLS opening weekend. It makes for a lot of fun, but for fans of good defense, it’s not necessarily the best product.
From SBNation: “Salary cap and closed system or not, MLS is always going to have trouble becoming the best soccer league in the world. The next-best alternative is having a genuinely silly product with a ton of goals. It might not have happened intentionally, but it appears that MLS has stumbled into exactly that kind of product.”
Magee’s first goal, a chip shot in the 65th minute that gave the Galaxy a 2-1 lead, is in the running for Mls Goal of the Week. It’s in the quarterfinals against the Crew’s bicycle kick against Portland by Federico Higuain.

Magee is also one of three Galaxy players to earn GoalUSA MLS Team of the Week honors, joining Ashley Cole and Daniel Steres.
