Here's a fantastic 1913 vintage photographs featuring a "Bloomer" girl -- a female ballplayer/team who would barnstorm around the country taking-on all competition. The photographs is via the Shorpy blog -- easily my favorite of all vintage photography websites. Check it out here.

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1990 Fernando Valenzuela no-hit the Cardinals, 6-0, at Dodger Stadium. With 119 pitches he struck out seven and walked three. Also, on this same night, former Dodgers starter Dave Stewart threw a no-hitter against the Blue Jays -- thereby marking the first time in modern Baseball history that two no-hitters were thrown on the same day. In 1995 Hideo Nomo struck out thirteen Rockies to give him a then team record of 50 strike outs in four consecutive starts. In 1996 Mike Piazza hit three home runs against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. He became the fifth Dodger to hit three homers in a game. In 2012 the Dodgers signed amateur free agent Yasiel Puig.

  • Via George Miller and Anthony Franco at MLB Trade Rumors -- "Dodgers Announce Initial 60-Man Player Pool."
  • Please! Is there anything the Dodgers can do to help? Is there anything fans can do? Please help Andrew Toles. Via Gwen Filosa at the Miami Herald -- "Pro baseball player jailed for sleeping behind the Key West airport, police say."
Toles was sleeping behind the Federal Express building, located at Key West International Airport, 3491 S. Roosevelt Blvd. All he had with him was a black book bag, deputies said.
Police said they gave Toles several chances to leave the area without being arrested but he wouldn’t walk away, wrote Deputy Tomas Venegas.

  • Via Mark Wiedmer at the Chattanooga Time Free Press -- "Wiedmer: Follow Rick Honeycutt's advice, and MLB season might yet be saved."
"It's like the parent who takes his kid to daycare with a little bit of a temperature," he said. "Now you're putting everybody else at risk. You can't be a spreader. You've got to take every possible precaution, and that sometimes means wearing a mask and gloves. I can't understand why we weren't being told to wear masks and gloves in the beginning of this. Everybody thinks, 'It can't happen to me.' But this can happen to anybody."
...
"No poor choices. Team not self. You've got to hammer that into their heads."
  • Per Jonathan Mayo at MLB.com -- "Top farm systems: Corner infielders."
6. Dodgers (Kody Hoese)
Hoese, the Dodgers’ first first-round pick in 2019, currently sits at No. 10 on our Top 10 3B Prospects list with the chance to have an excellent power profile for the hot corner. Miguel Vargas (No. 15) and Edwin Rios (No. 18) give this deep system some options at the corners for the future.
  • Per Gabe Zaldivar at Sports Illustrated -- "Adrian González’s Man Cave Is A Sports Collector’s Dream.'
“Basically, in 2012, I got to play for the Red Sox and the Dodgers. Both were historic years, for both franchises,” González said. “Red Sox, it was the one hundred anniversary, Dodgers it was the fiftieth anniversary. So, I kind of played in 150 years of tradition.”
As for the flag he has in his man cave, that holds a special meaning: “And the same year the Red Sox were amazing. They flew this this flag over the Capitol in honor of the birth of our first daughter, Brianna Bell.”
  • Matt remains a free agent, via a tweet from Craig Mish:

  • Per an AP Report at ESPN -- "Four minor leaguers suspended for violating drug program."
Reza Aleaziz and Juan Idrogo, minor league pitchers for the Los Angeles Dodgers, also received suspensions. Aleaziz was suspended 50 games after testing positive for Amphetamine, and Idrogo received a 72-game ban after testing positive for gw501516, a performance-enhancing substance.
  • Per Liz Roscher at Yahoo Sports -- "Four former presidents kick off celebration of Negro Leagues' 100th anniversary."
Former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter are lending their voices to an important baseball milestone: the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Negro Leagues.
The four ex-presidents kicked off the “Tip Your Cap” campaign on Monday, which asks baseball fans to take a photo or short video of themselves tipping their caps in honor of the talented players and civil rights heroes of the Negro Leagues.
