Blog Kiosk: 11/1/2017 - Dodgers Links - Game 7 is TONIGHT!

Wow!

On the right was my view from last nights thrilling Game 6 victory. I sat in the Left Field Pavilion for the first time in decades, and I can't begin to express how much fun it was there.

Blue was everywhere. The crowd was loud and enthusiastic. Strangers were hugging strangers. It was fantastic.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a lot of pictures. In fact, once the game started I only pulled out my camera once. Heck, I refused to leave my seat until the very last pitch of the game. In lieu of any pics (of which there are really none) I will instead direct you to Cat Loves the Dodgers. She shares a whole bunch of pics from Game 6 here.

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1951 Roy Campanella is named the National League MVP -- his first of three MVP's he would win.  In 1966 Sandy Koufax becomes the first three-time winner of the Cy Young Award. He is a unanimous winner for the second-straight year. This is the last year that only one award is given for pitchers in both leagues. In 2000 Jim Tracy is named manager of the Dodgers. In 2005 the Brooklyn Cyclones, a Mets Single-A farmclub, unveiled their Jackie Robinson/Pee Wee Reese bronze sculpture at their stadium -- then known as KeySpan Park. See it on the right. In 2007 Joe Torre is named the new Dodgers manager.

Late last week, Caltrans workers painted over the graffiti on the Park Row Overcrossing with blue rather than the usual gray color in honor of the Los Angeles Dodgers making it to the World Series.
The idea to use blue paint likely came from Caltrans maintenance crews, said Caltrans spokeswoman Lauren Wonder on Monday.
  • Kiké is hilarious. Per Mike Oz at Big League Stew; "Kiké Hernandez immediately puts on Halloween costume after Game 6 win."
  • Via JP Hoornstra at the OC Register; "Dodgers begin search for next director of player development."
“We’re going to cast a wide net,” Zaidi said. “I think that process is probably going to take place over the next couple weeks.”
Kapler became the Dodgers’ farm director in November 2014. His approach to the job was unusually holistic. He initiated ideas that included serving organic food in minor league clubhouses, building a chicken coop at Camelback Ranch, leadership retreats for prospects, and hiring at least one Spanish-speaking coach to every minor league staff.
  • Holy crap! Per Daniel Rapaport at Sports Illustrated; "Bettor Wins $8 Million Bet on Dodgers to Win Game 6, Has Netted $14 Million on World Series."
According to RJ Bell, who is an odds provider for the Associated Press, a big-time bettor in Vegas has bet on the winning team in each of the five games of the World Series. He has bet (reinvested) his winnings on the next game each time, which has netted him a cool $8 million so far. Any normal person would set aside at least a few million at that point.
But that's just not the name of the gambling game. The man, who is reportedly under 30 years old and Eastern European, is letting it all ride. He bet a total of $8 million on the Dodgers to win Game 6, and stood to win more than $6 million if the Dodgers pulled out the win (L.A. closed at around -126).
