Arsenal took on FC Nurnberg at the 50,000-capacity Max-Morlock-Stadion this evening and after a difficult start, the Gunners showed their class.

Mikel Arteta handed Matt Turner and young Reuell Walters their debut from the start, while Gabriel Jesus got his opportunity in the second half.

Arsenal were 2-0 down at the break and it just seemed like one of those days. However, five second-half strikes – two from Jesus, a thunderbolt from Mohamed Elneny and two own goals – helped us pick up a good win.

Reuell Walters impresses

It’s not very often that a 17-year-old gets the nod from the start, even though it was only a pre-season game. Arteta trusted Walters enough to start him, and the teenager impressed.

After a few shaky moments early on, the former Tottenham academy talent looked brilliant. He coped well physically and tactically, and he’s definitely one we should keep an eye on going forward.

Kieran Tierney worry

Arsenal’s starting XI against Nurnberg this evening wasn’t really an exciting one, but one name that made all of us smile was Kieran Tierney. The Scotsman missed a big chunk of the second half of last season due to an injury, and that was a big blow.

Seeing him back was an amazing sight, but he was withdrawn after just 30 minutes. It’s unclear if this was pre-planned or if he picked up another injury this evening. We pray that it isn’t the latter.

Gabriel Jesus is special

The first rule of every pre-season game is to not get too excited when we win and to not act like the house is on fire if we lose. However, we just can’t help but be excited about Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian came on in the second half and turned the game on its head. He scored twice but could’ve easily scored two more. What was even more impressive was the way he linked up with Eddie Nketiah – thus proving to us that the two can play together if needed.

The Mohamed Elneny special

Mo Elneny doesn’t always score a goal for Arsenal, but when he does, he sure makes you stand up and applaud.

We all know the Egyptian is capable of the spectacular from long range, and he proved that again today. Elneny scored an absolute stunner from outside the box, and just a few minutes later, he almost did it again.

This could be Charlie Patino’s year

We all know how talented young Charlie Patino is, and he showed his quality again today.

The youngster came on in the second half and looked very much at home. He wasn’t fazed by the pressing, was very tidy with the ball, and even showed off his dribbling skills on a couple of occasions.

With the Europa League back at the Emirates, Patino will likely get a number of opportunities at senior level this year, and this could well prove to be his breakthrough season.
