The summer transfer window officially opened today and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal have just completed the signing of Marquinhos from Sao Paulo.

The Gunners have been keeping a very close eye on the Brazilian market over the last few years because of Edu Gaspar. Our technical director’s connections in his home country are arguably better than anyone else’s, which opens the door for us to sign hugely talented players from there without too much trouble.

Our last young Brazilian purchase was Gabriel Martinelli from the fourth tier of the country’s football league, and he is already one of the best players of his age in world football. Now, it looks like Arsenal have found another gem.

Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal have signed Marquinhos from Sao Paulo

Arsenal have long been linked with a move for talented Brazilian youngster Marquinhos.

The transfer was all but confirmed by Sao Paulo’s president over three weeks ago, with reports even suggesting that the teenager had flown over to England to complete his move.

Now, almost a month after the rumours first emerged, it looks like Arsenal have completed the deal and an official announcement is imminent, claims Romano.

He tweeted: “Deal finally signed between Arsenal and São Paulo for Brazilian winger Marquinhos. Everything completed on a permanent deal, €3.5m fee. Contract agreed until June 2027 for Marquinhos, born in 2003 and now set to be announced as new AFC player.”

Electrifyingly fast

Not much is known about Marquinhos considering that he has only ever played in Brazil and has scored just four senior goals in his career so far. However, he is definitely one you should keep an eye on.

A left-footed right-winger filled with tricks and skills, Marquinhos is ‘electrifyingly fast’, claim Goal.

The outlet further reveals that fans of Sao Paulo actually feel he’s a bit like Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura. They believe Marquinhos shares the same strengths as the Spurs star, who has played over 200 times for our North London rivals since he joined them from PSG.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that Marquinhos is more like Martinelli than Moura, but only time will tell. He’s widely expected to go out on loan next season, but if he impresses Mikel Arteta in pre-season, the Gunners boss may well decide to keep hold of him.
