Emile Smith Rowe’s performances since coming into the side after Christmas has really impressed Mikel Arteta.
The 20-year-old started his first game in the Premier League for over a year against Chelsea on Boxing Day. The youngster was one of the best players on the pitch and he played a massive part in helping us get the win.
Smith Rowe has been just as good, if not better, in the three games after the one against the Blues. He scored to break the deadlock against Newcastle United last weekend, and Arteta has been pleasantly surprised with his performances game after game.
Arteta: Smith Rowe‘s consistency has impressed me
He wrote in Arsenal’s official matchday programme ahead of tonight’s game: “Emile Smith Rowe scored the first (goal against Newcastle). I’ve been impressed with his performances since he came into the team, and also the capacity he’s shown to do it in consecutive games.”
“That is not normal for young players usually.”
“Against Newcastle, he came into the game when we needed a different energy and a threat in the box. He did exactly what we expected. He scored too which is something we’ve been talking to him about.”
Smith Rowe has truly been a breath of fresh air. His touches, movement and his ability to score and assist makes Arsenal’s attack extremely dangerous.

Arsenal fans cannot disagree with that assessment. Smith Rowe is a fantastic prospect and he will only get better. Arteta should be careful about over-using him, but from what we have seen over the last few weeks, he looks ready to handle it.
