Arsenal defender Pablo Mari spoke to ESPN Brazil about his recovery from injury alongside ‘different talent’ Gabriel Martinelli.
The former Flamengo man suffered a terrible injury that kept him out of the side for over four months. He returned to Premier League action on Boxing Day and he has been incredible for us.
Mari got a chance to spend a lot of time with Martinelli during his recovery. He was really impressed with the Brazilian and heaped praise on his attitude – both on and off the pitch.
He said: “Speaking of him (Martinelli) as a footballer, I think he has something different, I think he is a different talent from what we are seeing. I had the opportunity to get to know him in depth during these months of injury that we work together almost every day.”
“I know how good he is, he is a wonderful person. He is a boy who is very professional, he likes to come to work, to work hard, he is always thinking of others, he is a very humble boy.”
Martinelli is a special player
Martinelli, at such a young age, has shown the world what he is capable of. He came in as a nobody but after a few games in an Arsenal shirt, he made the world stand up and notice him.
The youngster’s energy on the pitch is infectious. The way he drives into the opposition half without any fear gives a lift to all the players around him, and we missed that dearly during his absence.
Now that he is back, every Arsenal fan will hope he stays injury-free. The Brazilian has what it takes to become one of the best players in the world, but he needs to make sure he stays fit.
Martinelli alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe show that the future is very bright for us. If all three of them are managed well, we will have a solid team for the better part of the next decade, if not more.
