Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke to Sky Sports after the game about Kieran Tierney’s injury that kept him out of the draw against Crystal Palace.
The Scotsman has been one of our best players this season and our performance without him showed just how integral he is to our system.
Arsenal’s left-side lacked any sort of threat against the Eagles tonight. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, as good a he can be at left-back, had a poor game, and that made things worse for us.
Everyone associated with Arsenal will be hoping that Tierney isn’t out for too long. We host Newcastle United on Monday and the Scotsman’s presence in the side will make a massive difference. Arteta, however, isn’t sure how bad his injury is.
Asked if Tierney will be back for Monday’s game, Arteta said: “I don’t know, it depends how he evolves.”
“He’s going to have an MRI scan tomorrow to see how he is. He is a real threat and the way we attack on the left is really important, but he is injured and we have to find a solution.”
Arsenal will face a very similar test against Newcastle United on Monday. The Magpies will do exactly what Crystal Palace did today, and unlocking their defence without Tierney’s brilliant deliveries from the left will be difficult.
Arteta needs to find a solution for Monday as well as the future. Tierney is our only recognised left full-back with Sead Kolasinac now out of the club.
Edu and Arteta are reportedly working their socks off to bring in a new number 10, but keeping an eye on a backup left-back wouldn’t be a bad idea.
