Why Aubameyang Is The Man To get Arsenal Back Into Top 4 Contention

The January transfer window at Arsenal was a pretty big one, especially with Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott departing. Stripping a squad, who let’s face it, are struggling to stay in touch with the Top 4, of that talent is going to have an impact. Arsenal worked diligently to bring in Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal for Sanchez, but the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund is the one which really stands out for me.

First of all, this signing should have happened years ago in my opinion. While Aubameyang isn’t a typical “Arsene Wenger player” he has all the attributes to be a huge success in the Premier League and has already shown what he’s about. Yes, he’s raw and at times a bit untidy, but he has electric pace and pace causes problems against any side. He’s also an accomplished finisher too. Therefore, Gunners fans will be betting on Pierre-Emerick being the first goalscorer in all upcoming matches, and anyone who wants to keep up with the striker’s performance and online betting should visit great sites like  Betting (dot) com.

At times you could say that Arsenal are a side who try and walk the ball into the goal, they can overplay it. With Aubameyang they have a player who’s always playing on the shoulder, he’s waiting to pounce on that final ball; and Arsenal will more than likely find themselves playing that pass to him more often than not. His goal scoring record certainly stands up to scrutiny too. At former club Borussia Dortmund he played 213 times, scoring 141 goals, providing 36 assists. The Gabon international is quite simply an elite striker.

What we also saw while Aubameyang was at Dortmund was him utilised effectively as a wide player too. He’s still lightening quick, even at 28, and shows no signs of slowing down. While it’s not his only attribute, pace is a big part of Auba’s game and he can certainly deliver from wide too. Over the course of his career he’s played 100 times as a right winger, scoring 39 goals and setting up 23. That’s a record that any of the top wide players around would be proud of. It gives Arsene Wenger the chance to mix things up if he wanted to play Danny Welbeck or Alexandre Lacazette for example.

Aubameyang’s arrival at the Emirates will also be enhanced further by Henrikh Mkhitaryan also joining the club in the window too. The pair played together at Borussia Dortmund for three seasons and formed a great understanding on the pitch. Their understanding on the pitch for Arsenal won’t take long to reform and this could be a great weapon for the Gunners over the course of the rest of the season.

While Alexandre Lacazette is a superb player in his own right, so far he’s failed to hit the heights expected of him. Aubameyang has come in and immediately hit the ground running, Arsenal already look like they have a totally new dimension to their game. Auba will score goals for the Gunners and plenty of them and these could be integral in getting them back into the mix for a Top 4 finish.
