Yet another disappointing away trip. You’d think after Sunday’s game there’d be some sort of reaction, but you couldn’t really see one last night even cfthough West Ham did park the bus for most of the game.
Here’s how the players got on:
Petr Cech – 6.2
As we had most of the possession Cech didn’t have much to do but when he was called in to deal with crosses he looked very suspect.
Hector Bellerin – 6.3
After that upturn in form a few weeks ago, it’s like we’re seeing the Bellerin of last season all over again. He didn’t take on his Opposite Number and didn’t manage to get any decent crosses into Olivier Giroud.
Laurent Koscielny – 5.8
For the third game running, Koscielny has given everyone a reason to believe that he should be dropped. Last night he could have cost us the game again with a silly pass across the face of goal which resulted in Javier Hernandez hitting the crossbar.
Nacho Monreal – 6.5
Monreal didn’t have a bad night but didn’t really impact anything at centre back.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 7.0
Oh, so we played with a back four, does that mean Ainsley is moving into Midfield so our actual left back can play on the flank? Nope. Either way though, despite continuing to play out of position Maitland-Niles stood out on his first Premier League start by showing great feet and asking questions of his opposite number.
Alex Iwobi – 5.9
A very drab performance from Iwobi. Other than when he hit the post in the first half he didn’t really seem in the game that much.
Granit Xhaka – 6.2
Again, another lacklustre performance in midfield from Xhaka saw him statpad on passing numbers with sideways passes but he did also lose the ball a few times like he has done in most games recently.
For me he could have been dropped in order to play Maitland-Niles centrally and maybe let Calum Chambers into the back four for Monreal to fill in at his more comfortable position of left back.
Jack Wilshere – 7.3
What a surprise, Wilshere starts and is one of the stand out players. In a very tight midfield Wilshere was exactly what we needed last night as he weaved in and out of challenges with great touches and passes. He almost won us the game but couldn’t control a close-range volley on his right foot.
Mesut Ozil – 6.6
He came close to scoring with a volley in the second-half but other than that didn’t do too much to impact the game.
Alexis Sanchez – 6.5
Sanchez done what Sanchez does, lose the ball. Didn’t do anything of note other than an on target free kick
Olivier Giroud – 6.0
Got the start he’s been asking for but didn’t take the chance. For most of the game he couldn’t get a touch on the ball but was found by Maitland-Niles a couple of times.
Danny Welbeck – 6.0
Came on with about 15 minutes to do but didn’t do anything to make a difference.
Alexandre Lacazette – 6.4
Had about 10 minutes to make a difference and got into a few decent positions in behind the midfield but ultimately couldn’t do anything.
