Premier League Roundup: City Relentless, Arsenal and Liverpool Frustrated, and Palace Dramatic

Manchester City followed up their Derby win with a fine 4-0 thrashing of Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. Once David Silva had opened the scoring there was no way back for Paul Clement’s men as City retained their 11 points lead at the top of the Premier League.

Manchester United bounced back from their disappointing Sunday to beat AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Old Trafford, the winning goal coming from Romelu Lukaku ending his recent drought.

Liverpool were frustrated by Everton in the Merseyside Derby and were frustrated once again last night as they were unable to break down a stubborn West Bromwich Albion side who are still yet to score under Alan Pardew.

Chelsea needed a win after their surprise defeat to West Ham and beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 thanks to a fine display by midfielder Willian.

Arsenal have now drawn their last two matches, failing to find the net against West Ham United in a match that finished 0-0. It was another good result for David Moyes, following on from their 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend. However, the Hammers remain in the bottom three.

Off the bottom once again are Crystal Palace. There seems to be drama without fail in injury-time at Selhurst Park at the moment as Palace left it very late to get the fans on their feet. Watford led 1-0 but two goals in the last minute from Bakary Sako and James McArthur saw Palace claim all three points.

Everton look a different team under Sam Allardyce as they came away from his former employers Newcastle United with a 1-0 win, courtesy of a tap-in from Wayne Rooney. Everton are now firmly in the top half of the table whereas Newcastle are dropping quickly. News of a takeover cannot happen quickly enough for Rafa Benitez.

Burnley refuse to let up in their chase of the top four. On Tuesday night they went to sleep in the Champions League Places, following their 1-0 win over Stoke thanks to a late strike from Ashley Barnes.

Tottenham’s slump seems to be over for now as they saw off Brighton 2-0 at Wembley, the deadlock being broken by a fluke from Serge Aurier.

Claude Puel returned to Southampton with Leicester City and treated the locals to an excellent attacking performance as Leicester City ran out 4-1 winners.

Swansea City now sit bottom of the table with West Ham and Crystal Palace in the relegation zone. However, only goal difference separates Palace, West Ham and West Brom with only another point keeping Newcastle United, Stoke and Bournemouth safe. Tottenham, Burnley and Liverpool all have 31 points around the Champions League places with Liverpool just one point behind them. City, United and Chelsea still make up the top three.
