Liverpool missed the first goal but easily destroyed Arsenal

Liverpool ruined Arsenal in the main match of the 20th round of the championship of England.

The central match of the 20th round of the English Premier League took place on Enfield where Liverpool hosted Arsenal. The fact that Tottenham lost to Wolverhampton had to motivate the team of Jurgen Klopp as the victory allowed the team from Manchester to increase a gap from the closest persecutor according to the results of the match day.

But the Gunners, despite the abundance of squad problems came to the leader not to hang out the flag of truce but to fight for result.

The starting line-up of Liverpool for the match was quite predictable. It was possible to mention Jurgen Klopp’s focus on the attack – besides the habitual attacking trio consisting of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino Xherdan Shaqiri was also involved into attack.

And what about the starting line up of Arsenal, Unai Emery gave a surprise, having fielded Ainsley Maitland-Niles into the attacking group. In the central part of the field there was a place to Aaron Ramsey while Mattéo Guendouzi was warming the bench. Of course, the list of Londoners was far from optimum, considering a number of injured football players.

The course of game on Enfield was calm and slow till the 11th minute when Arsenal as it seemed at that time, twirled an intrigue.

Alex Iwobi cut around with the partner and from the left corner of Penalty area cut out an ideal pass on far post. The full backs and Alisson were cut off by this pass and Ainsley Maitland-Niles could only attack an empty gate that was immediately done.

Liverpool was in the status of the team chasing the leader only for some minutes. Then the hosts organized a goal with a touch of fortune. The excellent combination was played by the football players from Manchester: Mohamed Salah appeared in the penalty area but the rival made a tackle.

After several ricochets from the full backs the ball came to Roberto Firmino and the Brazilian did not miss from a short distance. And already in the following attack Jurgen Klopp’s team came forward.

Roberto Firmino dexterously over played Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos and attacked the right corner. Double!

Being tipsy, the football players continued to attack and in ten minutes prior to the break the hosts have managed to strengthen the goal advantage.

Andrew Robertson made the fine long pass on the left edge of rivals’ penalty area, Mohamed Salah sent the ball along the gate and Sadio Mané made the direct shot from the close distance.

In the first half the Reds destroyed the rivals. Mohamed Salah fell in penalty area after the contact with Papastathopoulos and Michael Oliver Awarded the disputable penalty. Mohamed Salah accurately scored the goal.

Soon after the break Arsenal organized quite good moment. Aaron Ramsey ran into the free zone at the left in rivals’ penalty area and received the pass from the partner.

The Welshman was either shooting or sending the ball to the right on the partner. Anyway, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent the ball above the cross from some meters.

The referee recorded the offside though on review it was seen that no offside in this episode ever happened. If Aubameyang has scored, the fans of the Gunners would have had one more occasion to talk about refereeing.

In the middle of the second half Michael Oliver awarded one more penalty into the gate of the London team and again it was disputable. Sead Kolašinac has pushed Dejan Lovren in penalty area. A lot of such episodes in penalty areas happened for one game but this time the referee decided to point the penalty spot.

Roberto Firmino has surely over played Bernd Leno and made the hat trick. Even after that Liverpool used the pressure and pleased the fans who gathered on stands.

Shortly before the final whistle Michael Oliver could award the penalty into the goal of the team from Manchester but the referee didn’t react to Nathaniel Clyne and Alexandre Lacazette’s contact. After the game the referee will surely face a lot of questions.

Final score – 5:1. Liverpool destroyed Arsenal and continues to be the leader of the Premier League. It is possible to speak about controversial decisions of the referee, but the Jurgen Klopp’s team was stronger.
