Jesus is laid in the arms of his Blessed Mother

Jesus had died and the crowds departed. The disciple and the holy women remained. The holy women comforted Mary in her grief. A sword has been driven into her heart as she witnessed
her Son’s death. Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea removed the body from the cross and laid it in Mary’s arms. Mary held her son and gazed upon his face.

The crowds left Calvary and the disciple and the women remain.
They looked upon Jesus. Their hearts were filled with pain.
Mary stood at the foot of the cross and gazed upon her son.
A sword pierced her heart after she saw all that had been done.
Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus down from the cross.
They placed the body in Mary’s arms and she grieved her loss.

With Blessed Mary, we grieve at her loss.
She held the body of her Son after he had been taken down from the cross.
Lord, give us compassion to mourn with those who suffer loss.
Strengthen us by the power of your holy cross.

Jesus, at the cross, only the disciple and women would remain.
They watched you suffer and endure great pain.
Mary held you in her gentle arms. Her heart was in agony.
She held the One who gave of himself to set me free.
