SYMPHONY OF THE UNIVERSE: 9 poems and parables

Symphony of the Universe

Awareness flows from spirit
arriving nowhere and everywhere
beyond the void
producing desires
that, in turn, create our thoughts…

And like the infinite ocean
expressing itself as waves
our thoughts manifest intentions
spurring us into action—
with mindfulness, or not—
as to whether our deeds will harmonize our souls
with the symphony of the Universe…

Oh, what heavenly music it is
when our thoughts, intentions and actions tune
into the vibrations of ONE.

Fire of Pure Awareness

A baby being born
and an old man dying,
two young star-crossed lovers
with hopeful hearts set on a bright future,
and a grieving widow
with tears in her eyes for what once was
and could have been forever…

The triumphant feelings of success
and the stinging blows of failure,
all the heartache and pain
and all the little joys that make life worth living.
All the anxious clinging from not letting go of the past,
and the moments of bliss in not looking off to the future…

All the love,
all the fear,
all the beauty of human connection
and all those long, heavy nights spent in the grip of loneliness.

The Dance
The Journey
The Way:
The expression of life’s internal contradictions
folds on itself in the end,
and bursts into laughter…

Alas,
we can never fully grasp
the sheer perfection of the Divine Plan.
Like viewing a mysterious painting,
all we can do is ponder its deeper meaning,
but we are not that Cosmic Artist
who bares IT’s soul.

So, we may gain
a rarefied glimpse
into the unspoken wonder
of the holy emptiness behind all forms…

Beyond the void,
our souls rest in knowing
that everything is just as it should be,
in sublime accordance with a greater will
set ablaze by the fire of pure awareness.

Suchness

Birth and Death,
the Passing of the seasons,
here one minute and then gone the next.
Such simple beginnings,
such humble ends,
like the rings on a tree,
those lines on your face grow deeper.

Intellectualizing life,
you wither away.
What wisdom can you bring to the art of living and dying?
Be Here,
and fill your lungs
with the elixir of breath,
that most glorious gift
of the Great Mystery.

Changing Times

When we were young,
things were more carefree.
People said what they meant
and meant what they said…
there wasn’t all this running about
and skirting the truth to your advantage.

When the connection was there,
you acted on it
and that’s how it was supposed to be.
Two souls born from the same seed
sharing a joyous moment,
sipping from the cup of life
and basking in a luminous essence…

But then we got our phones
to play alongside our TVs,
and we began to spend all our waking hours
comparing ourselves to one another
on illusionary platforms designed to pull us further from the spirit within…

And what did we find through all our technological advancements?
Did we discover simplicity?
Wisdom?
Divine Union?
Or did we find more useless distractions to focus our awareness upon?
SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION!
PHONY SOCIAL JUSTICE!
And self-righteous clinging to a cause,
any cause…

“WAIT, CAN YOU HEAR ME? I AM IMPORTANT! WHERE ARE MY FOLLOWERS? AND ALL OF MY ADMIRERS?
Waiting to turn me into the next big thing,
only to recede as fast as I rose into the darkness,
without any added sense of compassion, understanding or intuitive awareness of my intimate bond with that greater web of being…

Tell me,
while lying on your deathbed,
will you reflect on your life without regrets,
knowing that you truly lived
with your heart wide open and your mind fully tuned to all that IS?

The Green Oasis

Miles of forest trails
lie ahead of me now.
My paradise,
bliss,
and freedom from the illusion of separateness!

For just as golden eagles soar high
as God’s lotus-winged pilots of the sky,
a unified perspective is attained
on the sunny mountainside,
where my spirit humbly resides
with eternal gratitude.

On the verge of nothing and everything

Lately, I’ve felt that I’m on the verge of something. Call it a breakthrough or a new way of relating to life. But what it is, I can’t quite put into words. The mystics might say that what it is can only be known from the inside out, and the second you try to name it, it’s lost.

All that I can say is that the renunciation of worldly games, along with an attitude of inner detachment, greatly appeals to me now. Increasingly, I have a strong intuitive hunch that the things of this world that we’ve all been programmed to pursue are fleeting and nothing but Maya, the cosmic illusion that our Creator plays to better know Its own infinite self.

But perhaps, I’m deluded and led astray by the golden chain of spiritual ego, to feel that I’m on the verge of anything at all… other than to BE HERE NOW.

The highest purpose

The highest purpose of meditation is to clear all the noise and static from your mind so you become a perfect instrument of the divine within.

A parable for today

One day, a Famous wealthy man fell into a well, just as he was about to give an interview to reporters in which he’d announce his own greatness and superiority to all his peers in the business world. Miraculously, this famous wealthy man emerged from his fall unscathed.

As he sat in the well, cursing profanities at what he thought was his certain misfortune, a team of rescue workers appeared on the scene. Most of the workers briefly left to fetch the tools and rope they’d need to pull the Wealthy Famous man out of the well. However, one of the workers remained behind.

The lone worker peered down into the well and said with a chuckle, “Well, it certainly appears that you’re in quite the predicament at this moment! Esteemed sir, if I may ask you just one question: Of what use is all that money and fame to you right now?”

The wealthy famous man replied by cursing more profanities in the direction of the rescue worker and shouting, “Just get me out of here, you son of a bitch! If you don’t get me out of here soon, I’ll see to it that you’re out of a job. Don’t think for a minute that I don’t have the power to make that happen!”

The rescue worker chucked again, and then reached for a flashlight and dropped it down into the well. He replied to the wealthy famous man’s threats by saying, “Esteemed sir, may this light guide you out of your own well of darkness, so you may finally see that humility and love is the only way.”
