India China News Today: In 1997, Britain handed over Hong Kong’s control to China. “Two systems, One Country” was the formula applied to protect the sovereignty of the people of Hong Kong. One after another, controversies keep emerging every other day, what could be the possible cause of it?

India China News Today: What is the protest all about?

China is about to pass a bill that ensures the punishment of those who insult the Chinese National Anthem in Hong Kong. The provision includes a fine of 50 Grands (HK$) or/and imprisonment of up to three years for those who violate the law.

The bill also asserts that everyone must dignify the Chinese National Anthem by playing and/or singing it at pertinent occasions. Also, it’s historical background and etiquette to be taught in primary and secondary schools after teaching the students to sing it in harmony.

Why is it being protested?

According to some native people, the fundamental rights including the freedoms of press, speech, demonstration, and association are explicitly stated inside the constitution are under threat which is why people are protesting the passing of the bill.

The crowd chanted:

“There’s only one way, Independence Hong Kong” and “Humanity and Independence is higher than your authority” and demanded the withdrawal of national security legislation and national anthem bill.

China can never withstand the idea of separation from Taiwan

The self-governing island is considered as a part of its territory by China. It is frequently endorsed that it shall ultimately be reunified with the mainland, even if it requires the forceful interference of the military troops. China is foreseeing friendly reunification under one formula: “Two Systems, One Nation”.

Does Taiwan support this Idea?

Taiwan’s president asked for a talk with China but not “Two Systems, One Nation”. Taiwan has urged for freedom of speech and equality by finding a way of coexistence and denied unifying with China under “Two Systems, One Nation”.

Since the past few days, tension at the Indo-China border is going on and off. Both countries summoned thousands of brigades on both sides of the border. No country has officially given any statement on the events. It is believed that this issue is emerging due to the initiation of construction on the border.
