These women are experts at their job they know how to turn the churning-rod and how much pressure to apply to break the crust formed on the surface. And as they launch this process of churning, they make graceful movements of their hands and bodies in manipulating the motions of the rod and indulge in singing to find relief from the strain involved. A deep resonant sound emerges from the pot; to this are added the jingle of the ornaments worn by them and the melodious sound of their songs, thus culminating in a loud boom which spreads to all sides. The tranquil hour of dawn is congenial to the reverberation of these sounds by all the eight directions: north-east, east, south-east, south, south-west, west, north-west and north.
