MIEE Spotlight-Alexander Forrest

Today's MIEE Spotlight is on Innovative Teacher Alexander Forrest, who has been utilising Microsoft products in the classroom for nearly 10 years!

Beginning as a  Microsoft Innovative Teacher in 2008, Alexander participated in an 18 month project entitled "Addressing Gender Issues through Immersion in ICT" as part of the Microsoft Partners in Learning initiative run in conjunction with the SQA.

Since then Office 365  has allowed the creation of group collaborative learning projects - which involved pupils using Word, PowerPoint and Excel to create their responses and store them in their OneDrive accounts to be shared appropriately. More recently, Alexander has used Microsoft Classroom from November 2016 to its close this summer and encouraged students to play with Sway and Office Mix as well as carrying out surveys using Forms. The use of Microsoft Teams and OneNote is now embedded into his teaching practice with all of his classes; mainly utilising the features for accessibility and creativity - but also for flipped learning and for pupils to use their personal class Notebook pages for interactive learner dialogues. Alexander has also successfully used Skype in the Classroom and sees great potential for further sessions with his students.

Following on from his extensive experience utilising Microsoft Technologies he has recently finished completing the MEC EDX courses, and is part of a team guiding the start of a journey as a Microsoft School.  A great role model for innovative teaching, he enjoys sharing tips and delivering CPD training sessions for interested colleagues. In addition to the pupil use of Microsoft products, he has created many departmental Excel spreadsheets and has branched into using Access for tracking and monitoring.
