Today's MIEE Spotlight is on KS1 Primary School Teacher and ICT Lead, Henry Penfold. Henry is passionate about the role Skype in the Classroom has to inspire and engage the pupils in his classroom.
Henry has created authentic links with schools across the world to create a real life aspect to his class topics. For example, during his Rainforest topic, Henry connected his class to a school in Brazil which removed the walls of the classroom and gave his pupils the opportunity to truly understand, authentically, what life in Brazil is like. He has also given his class the opportunity to better understand the importance of Computer Science in the world of work, by having a Skype call with Trina Roy, an employee of Pixar.
Henry also uses Kodu Game Lab to prepare his young people for 21st Century society, by using this Games Based Learning tool to teach coding and game creation. Due to his great expertise and innovation in the classroom, Henry was chosen as one of the top educators in the UK to attend Microsoft's Global Teacher Exchange in Budapest in 2016, to share his excellent practice with teachers across the globe.
Henry was also featured in Anthony Salcito's blog series Daily Edventures where Microsoft Word-Wide VP of Education speaks to Henry about his approaches to pedagogy and how he uses technology to connect with his students. Read more here and watch the interview!
