Small school, Dreams Big!

Kirkton of Largo is a rural School in Fife, with currently just 34 pupils split between two classes, P1-4 and P5-7 this small school is making big strides when it comes to technology! The first Primary School in Scotland to become a Microsoft Showcase School, Kirkton of Largo take pride in ensuring confident, successful and responsible citizens within their students, who are able to effectively contribute to the digital world in which we are now living in.  Take a look at their Microsoft journey below.

Gemma Sanderson, a passionate Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, teaches the children in both P1-4 and P5-7 digital skills once a week. The school has 20 laptops and 5 desktop computers, all running Windows 7, meaning that their children have a designated laptop for use during the day (some children share). This means that on their laptops their pupils can be logged into Word, OneNote and Excel all the time and have easy access to their work stored in OneDrive. In Scotland Schools access Microsoft Tools through Glow and Kirkton Largo are logging into Glow everyday to access Office365 and their e-portfolios. Each pupil has a Sharepoint blog which is their learning log. As a result Kirkton of Largo pupils are confident using the Office365 tools and in particular love OneNote, Sway and Forms.

 Gemma says,

"We became a Microsoft Showcase school during National Digital Learning Week in May 2017, this was a great achievement for our school, as although we are small, we always dream big."

Their recognition as a Microsoft Showcase School has boosted the school's status as a digital school and is enhancing the support that they are able provide to other schools across Fife and Scotland. Just recently they have begun to invite other school leaders into their school to learn how they are using Glow and celebrate and share their Microsoft Showcase School status. Kirkton of Largo pride themselves on being a resource to their local community and other schools within Scotland. Gemma says,

"We are always open to visitors from other schools and happy to share how our pupils use Microsoft tools to enhance their digital skills."
