In 2015, Oneplus developed a Smartphone for under £250 which was definitely a wise move on there behalf. Before this Phone, they released the ‘OnePlus One’ smartphone which was a lot more expensive. They developed the OnePlus X, in order to try appeal more to the mass market, rather than at users who just want a high end phone. Having said this, I still feel that the OnePlus X smartphone is a little too expensive to be classed as a “budget” phone, but is still a reasonably affordable smartphone and is well worth the value for money.
The OnePlus X is currently available on Amazon for £223.86 and offers free delivery for UK residents. If you however keep an eye on the following list on Amazon, there are occasionally sellers who sell this smartphone for under £200 brand new.
Design and Features
The OnePlus X comes in a choice out of two different popular colours, black and white. The phone comes with a beautiful 5 inch 1080 x 1920 pixel display with phone dimensions of 140 x 69 x 6.9 mm making it an overall ideal size for portability as it will quite easily fit in the majority of trouser pockets. With the thickness being only 6.9mm, the white version of this phone looks like a bigger version of the iPhone 5S. The only difference by first glance is that the iPhone 5S has a much larger border around the screen, whereas the OnePlus X utilities the phones screen move, providing an extra inch screen size than the iPhone 5S.
The smartphone comes with dual sim functionality which seems to be quite a common trend in android phones these days, it also offers 4G, 3G and 2G connectivity. The camera on this smartphone is just like the Moto G3, 13MP back camera and a 8MP front camera which should be able to shoot good quality images and videos.
In terms of storage, this smartphone comes with 16GB of storage, and if this isn’t enough, the phone also offers support for both nano and Micro SD cards, allowing you to expand up to 128GB of extra storage. The phone however does not currently offer any bundles on purchasing the additional storage but you can purchase SD cards these days for a very cheap from a wide range of websites or high street stores. Below I have included some quick links to the cheapest SD cards that I found on both Amazon and eBay (07/03/2016).
Amazon 32GB SD Card : RRP: £35, Price: £9.25
Amazon 64GB SD Card RRP:55.06, Price: 13.54
Amazon 128GB SD Card RRP: £89.99, Price: £22.49
eBay 32GB SD Card — Price: £7.99
eBay 64GB SD Card — Price: £15.99
eBay 128GB SD Card — Price £38.49
This smartphone comes with an Octa core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 801 processor meaning you won’t struggle at all when it comes to performance. When I first seen this smartphone I was expecting a quad core processor for the price, so having 8 cores is a massive bonus. The phone also comes equipped with 3GBs of RAM, which in comparison to other popular phones is above the average. The Moto G3 for example comes with just 2GBs of RAM, and the iPhone 5S comes with just 1GB.
I recently wrote a review on the Moto G (2015), which I’d say is roughly in the same league as the phone just at a cheapest cost, so if this phone is too expensive for your budget, you can check out the Moto G (2015) here.
Personal rating: 4/5 stars
The OnePlus X is a perfect middle+ range smart phone, it comes with a beautiful 5 inch display offering a full HD 1080p screen. The phone also offers superb performance with its 8 built in cores which is very rare to see in a smartphone.
