The Dell XPS 13 is a very lightweight and thin laptop with a screen size of 13.3 inches, making it perfect for portability. One of the biggest unique selling points for this laptop is that it’s battery can last up to 15 hours and is the first 13.3 inch laptop to feature Infinity Display. The laptop comes with a wide range of features including a back lit keyboard. The laptop was released onto the market in November 2015 and is part of the XPS series by Dell. Overall this is a very good laptop, it is solidly built and looks professional. The only downsides to the laptop are that the built in speakers can be a little tinny on full volume, and the US style keyboard may be an issue for people from the UK.
The Dell Xps 13 is currently listed on amazon for £829 with 4GB RAM or £895 with 8GB RAM. The product also comes with free shipping.
Design and Features
This dell laptop is light grey in colour, with black interior and includes the Dell logo on the back. The design features an infinity display 13.3 inch screen, which is the first ever for a 13.3 inch laptop. You’ll notice the actual screen on the laptop contains a very thin border/trim, this is what is meant by infinity display.
The laptop comes a LED backlit keyboard, which I’ve always been a massive fan of, especially for gaming laptops. Sadly the keyboard is US style, which for some users may not be an issue, but for a lot of people this may be hard to get used to at first. People have also complained that the keyboard on the laptop is a little spongy. I’d personally say it was middle range and could slightly be improved, but the keys are by far not cheap and tacky like in a lot of laptops. The laptop also features a built in front webcam, which is actually located in an off centre position. Due to this, it has received many complaints, typically I have to agree that who ever was in charge of the user experience design for the webcam location, they have really made a bad job of it. On the plus side, the laptop also features all the regular ports and connections. It comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports, bluetooth connectively, wireless adapter (built in) and a HDMI port.
In terms of the performance of this laptop, it comes with a dual core 2.30GHz processor which should be more than enough for your every day needs. If you are buying this laptop for gaming, it is still a variable choice as it comes with an Nvidia GTX 940M, which is a good enough graphics card to play on medium settings for the majority of games currently on the market. You can choose between 4 and 8GB of RAM, depending on how much you are willing to spend. Personally I’d go for the 4GB as this is actually plenty, and you can do just about anything with just 4GB. (Unless you are someone who likes to keep multiple programs and games open at the same time). It is debatable why anyone would need any more than 8GB of RAM though, so if you’re willing to splash out an extra £66 then you’ll have more than enough RAM to suit your needs.
