Fix Error USB Device Not Recognized In Windows 10 Desktop or Laptop

When you plug in a USB flash drive, thumb drive, iPhone, android phone, dell tablet, keyboard, mouse, memory reader, webcam, or whatever else that relies on an USB connection, if it’s not functioning well or not recognized by Windows itself, Windows 10 will show you the error “USB Device Not Recognized  in a popup balloon near the taskbar of your desktop.


“The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.”
Or
“One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.”




The very first thing you should check is if your device’s driver is properly installed. It’s especially important if you have a rare device that isn’t common in the market.

Fix Error USB Device Not Recognized

Reboot Your Computer

Many computer issues can be quickly solved by restarting the computer. This process will end all programs and files so that any conflicts will be closed. After rebooting your computer, connect your device again to computer.

Perform a Power Reset / Static Discharge.

1. Disconnect all connected peripherals.

2. Remove the AC charger.

3. Remove the battery.

4. Push and release the power button ten (10) times in a row at one second interval.

5. Now push and hold down the power button for thirty (30) seconds.

6. Reinsert the Battery and then connect the AC charger.

7. Press the power button to turn on your laptop.

8. Connect one by one the USB devices.

Uninstall Unknown USB device

Open RUN (Windows Logo + R) and type “devmgmt.msc” and click OK.


Now expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Attach your device which is not recognized. You will see an Unknown USB device (Port reset failed) with yellow sign in Universal Serial Bus controllers.


Now right click on it and click Uninstall to remove them. Now restart your PC, the drivers are automatically reinstall after restart. That’s it.

The Power Management would also be the cause of the USB problems.


Open Device Manager - Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.


Double-click the USB Root Hub device, and click the Power Management tab. Turn off the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option, and click OK button.

Change the USB Selective Suspend Settings

on start menu type  Power Options and click on it this will open power options window



Click Change plan settings  Now click Change advanced power settings. Find and expand USB settings.

Expand Usb Selective Suspend settings and Disable both On battery and Plugged in settings.

Then Click Apply and OK to save the settings. That’s it.
