Snapchat Simplifies Search

Despite Snapchat’s surging popularity, the one black mark against it has been how difficult the messaging application is to navigate, and its new Search Bar is a big step toward remedying that issue.

Josh Constine of TechCrunch reported that some Android Snapchat users will start seeing the new Search bar Friday, and it will be added soon for all Android and iOS users.

The new search bar offers easier access to friends, groups, Discover and Our Stories, and Snapchat told Constine speed and ease of use were the motivations behind its introduction.

Constine added that users can access their own profiles by tapping their bitmojis on the left-hand side of the app, and tapping friends’ auto-suggest cards or search results launches chats with those friends.

Tapping friends’ Story thumbnails launches those Stories in full-screen mode, and tapping and holding users’ cards brings up their mini-profiles.

Specific daily editions of Discover channels or specific Our Stories are also searchable by title, according to Constine.

Snapchat also added another feature to Our Story, as Constine reported that the app is now allowing users to submit content from anywhere, at any time, without choosing a particular Our Story—Snapchat will decide how to aggregate that content.

Snapchat told Constine this tweak means it will no longer restrict itself to creating Our Stories based on preselected events and locations.
