Microsoft XO18: All That Came to Pass

Microsoft was all high and up with announcements in Mexico City. There were a handful of news and announcements about new services, games and acquisitions at its XO18 fan event. If you are excited about it and want to know more, read on!

Microsoft is now preparing to procure Obsidian Entertainment.  The company was established in 2003 by industry professional from Black Isle Studios. It is famous for Xbox exclusive Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II — The Sith Lords. For the fifteen years, the studio has developed role defining games for both PC and consoles. Some of them are South Park: The Stick of Truth, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity.

Microsoft stated that it will not change the studio creative style and ambitions along with its distinctive culture. So, Obsidian will also work autonomously. Both of the companies will strengthen Microsoft Studios.

InXile Entertainment

InXile Entertainment

Microsoft took over four development studios and opened a new studio recently. Now the company acquired InXile Entertainment, the company who developed The Bard’s Tale series & Wasteland. InXile is headed by Brian Fargo. The deal is done as Microsoft wants to bring more exclusives to the Xbox platform. As per the deal, inXile will be provided with support and liberty to work on its creative ambitions on current franchises as well as new projects.

The studio will operate independently as before, keeping role-playing games in center.

“We’re excited to have the team, the people, the craft,” executive Matt Booty said onstage. In a video, Fargo said, “I am not retiring anymore soon,” however, he announced it earlier.

Due to PUBG’s immense popularity, Microsoft has made the game available on Xbox Game Pass with a subscription fee of $10 per month. Also, Microsoft is adding 16 more games to Xbox Games Pass. Now, 100 titles are available on it and if you decide to sign up today, you can get the subscription for the first month by paying $1 only.

Another game, Thief of Thieves is available now. On November 22, Microsoft is including Thomas Was Alone, MXGP3, and Agents of Mayhem. Some other titles adding to the list in December are Kingdom Two Crowns, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Ori and the Blind Forest. These are not the only ones getting added for the holidays, Secret Neighbor, The Good Life, Aftercharge, Mutant Year Zero, Void Bastards, Supermarket Shriek, and Pathologic 2 will be added.

As Black Friday is approaching, Microsoft is offering discount up to USD 100 on select Xbox One console. The cheapest Xbox One X can be purchased for $400. You can get Xbox wireless controllers by paying $10 less than the original price. Microsoft is also providing discounts on games such as PUBG.

Also Forza Horizon 4 Fortune Island is expanding and will get released on Windows 10 PC and Xbox.

Crackdown 3 has a release date now. It will be out on February 15, 2019. The game’s Wrecking Zone is multiplayer. In Wrecking Zone, you can destroy your enemies by bringing upon environmental hazards. The game is developed by Microsoft Studios with Sumo Digital and Elbow Rocket in partnership. In this game, super-powered agents will be brought to New Providence which is an action-packed open-world. A player has to ramp down a criminal setup by using explosive weapons and powers. You can play the game in both single and multiplayer mode. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass, Windows and also on Xbox One.

Void Bastards exclusive

Another game Void Bastards is coming exclusivities to Xbox as a console launch. As a player, you need to be a leader of misfit prisoners of Void Ark and guide them through spaceships and numerous dangers of Sargasso Nebula. You need to select where to go, scavenge supplies, master combat and get improvised tools. The campaign will be from 12 to 15 hours. Also, Void Bastards will be available on the Xbox Game Pass.

Sea of Thieves’ fifth free content update will be released in early 2019. There will be a new competitive game mode that enables players to check their pirating skills in fast-paced matches against their enemies.  In every match, a player needs to find the treasure that brings exciting components of Sea of Thieves.

As Minecraft has crossed 91 million monthly players, head of the game, Helen Chiang told that there are 77 partners who contributed in the success which made the game popular. Next month, the game will provide a peek at the history behind pandas and cats in Minecraft.

Microsoft also revealed that a content pack got State Decay 2: Zedhunter is launching on November 16. With the new content pack, you get a new zombie killing weapon, powerful crossbow along with other facilities and weapons. State of Decay 2 is played by four million players, and Microsoft will make the new content Zedhunter accessible to these users for free.

Other announcements

  • Devil May Cry 5 is coming with Void Mode. It is a training mode which allows you to try moves and attacks. The mode is meant for practice and while practicing your Devil Breaker ability will be protected. Also, you get to use Sweet Surrender Devil Breaker to recover yourself in a fight.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider is coming with content expansions which are downloadable. It is the first instalment out of the seven monthly updates. First one is called The Forge, and it comes with new attack modes and weapons.
  • Two new Dragon Ball Fighters Golden Frieza and SSGSS are added to Jump Force Roster. These characters will possess special moves and super-powered modes.
  • Also, EA for Battlefield V will come with visual enhancements on Xbox One X game console. The support will be compatible with HDR and 4 K Ultra HD.
  • Microsoft has included Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, in the backward compatibility list for Xbox One X.
  • Kingdom Hearts III will have a new character- Winnie the Pooh.

Also, Xbox One will now support mouse and keyboard. A few new games such as Vigor, War Thunder, Fortnite, and lots of others will support keyboard and mouse.

The role-playing game, Fortnite will only make rivals compete against each other who are using keyboard and mouse functions. This will start working from November 14th. Next year, users can have a hands-on Xbox Adaptive Controller.

Chris Charla of Microsoft mentioned that [email protected] includes more than 1,000 indie games available, and these games engage users for more than 4 billion hours.

Philanthropy

Microsoft is also doing philanthropy. #givewithXbox campaign will give away $5 of Xbox products whenever a photo is shared on social media related to what gaming together means. The funds raised will be disturbed among four charities institutions; Operation Supply Drop, Gamers Outreach, Special Effect and Child’s Play.
