IBM Lotus Notes Migration Tips for Desktop Users

IBM Notes, formerly known as Lotus Notes, is an enterprise email client software provided by IBM. IBM Lotus Notes is the client part, while Lotus Domino is the server of the software platform. Lotus Domino is now known as IBM Domino. IBM Notes integrates messaging, business applications and social collaboration into one easier-to-use workspace. It’s an application suite that includes various components like emailaddress bookcalendaring and schedulingdatabase, web serverprogramming, etc. Unlike Microsoft Office suite, IBM Notes doesn’t split these pieces of functionality into separate products like Outlook, Access, FrontPage, etc. Instead, it presents all of these components using a single front-end. Many people think that Lotus Notes is an email client just because email is probably the most recognizable component that it has.

NSF – Notes Storage Facility

Like every other computer programs, IBM Notes also creates a file where it stores all its data and information. It’s a database file saved in NSF aka Notes Storage Facility format. Both IBM Notes and IBM Domino use NSF database file to store email messages, appointments, documents, application forms, and views. NSF format stores data in document units called notes.
