And the best thing is that you can do it manually, i.e. without using any 3rd party paid software. So just imagine, NSF to PST conversion without paying even a single penny. Sounds good? Of course, it does. But if somehow you can’t use the manual trick for NSF to PST conversion, then only you should consider using a professional converter utility.

NSF to PST Conversion. Why?

Do you know when and why NSF to PST conversion becomes a necessary task? I’ll start with “when we need to convert NSF to PST format”. If you were previously using IBM Notes (formerly known as Lotus Notes), all your email messages and other content would’ve stored in an NSF database. Lotus Notes created NSF database to store email messages and calendar data. Now you’ve switched to Microsoft Outlook, but you just can’t access your old mailbox content stored in NSF database. Why? The reason is simple, Outlook doesn’t support NSF file format. This is why NSF to PST conversion becomes a necessary task for IBM Notes users. In order to access your old mailbox content, you must convert NSF to PST format.

Unluckily, there’s no manual trick or a freeware to convert NSF to PST format. The only thing you can try for NSF to PST conversion is a professional NSF to PST Converter software.

How to export Lotus Notes email to Outlook client?

Though you can’t convert NSF to PST format manually, you can try to export Lotus Notes email and other data to MS Outlook client. How will you do that? Since you can’t import/export the NSF database file directly to MS Outlook client, first you must save your NSF database files’ content into such a file format which is supported by Outlook client. Luckily, Lotus Notes provides you two different file formats into which you can save your NSF database files’ content: Comma Separated Value and Structured Text. And the good is that both these file formats are supported by Outlook client. First, you can save your NSF file into any of these file formats. And after that, you can import this new file to Outlook client by using its Import feature.

Export Lotus Notes Email to CSV or Structured Text format

Step 1: First of all, you need to open the IBM Notes client on your system.

Step 2: Now open the database which you want to export into Outlook client. To open the database file, click the Open button on the task bar and select the NSF database.

Step 3: Now click the File tab on the task bar. Select Export… in the options.

Step 4: You’re on the Export wizard. Now define a new name and location for this new file. Also, choose a Save as type option.

You’ll find multiple options there. But you need to choose any of these two: Comma Separated Value or Structured Text. Then click the Export button.

Step 5: If you choose Comma Separated Value, the CSV Export dialog box will appear

Define the options and click OK to save the file.

Step 6: If you choose Structured Text, the Structured Text Export dialog box will appear

Define the options and click OK to save the file.

Import to Outlook Client

Now you need to import this new file to MS Outlook client. How will you do that?

Step 1: Open MS Outlook client on your system.

Step 2: Click the File tab on the task bar. Select Open in the options > Import.

Step 3: On the Import and Export Wizard, choose an action to perform. Select Import from another program or file in the options, and click Next to continue the process.

Step 4: On Import a File dialog box, select a file type to import from. Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) in the options, and click Next to continue the process.

Step 5: Now browse the location and select the file you’ve created earlier. Also, select the options there (optional). Click Next to go to the final step of this process.
