How to Remove Password Security from NSF File Manually?

NSF is database which support IBM Lotus Notes and IBM Domino Server. Notes storage facility is used to store emails, information, notes, calendars, appointments, contacts, etc. It contains application codes, Security rules, and data in a single file. Learn here how to remove security from NSF file manually.

Checkout the default location of NSF files:

  1. For Single User:

             Windows: – C:\Programs Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data

  1. For Multi User:
  • Windows XP: – \Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data
  • Windows Vista: – \Users\AppData\Local\Lotus\Notes\Data
  • Windows 7: – \Users\Username\AppData\Local\Lotus\Notes\Data
  • Windows 8: – \Users\Username\AppData\Local\Lotus\Notes\Data
  • Mac OS: – ~/Library/Application Support/Lotus Notes Data
  • Linux: – / {$HOME}/Lotus/Notes/Data

To run and make an NSF file secure, admin may apply the password protection on the NSF file with the help of ACL (Access Control List). So that the unauthorized user cannot be access the Nsf Files and if any user tries to do that then he will receive any of the below error message:

  • You are not authorized to perform that operation.
  • You are not authorized to access that database.

If any of the user receive these error message or unable to access the NSF files then here is some important solutions for that.

Method 1:

Note:

  • You do not need any password as well as user id to access the NSF file by this method.
  • User has a knowledge of Lotus notes e-discovery process and basic use of Notes Client.
  • Use Notes Client 8.5.x for this method.

Step 1: First of all, replace the user.id with the corresponding user.id of NSF, which you want to view.

Step 2: In the Notes Client, open the NSF file(s) that you want to access or want to remove the password.

Step 3: Choose View -> Advanced Menus.

Step 4: Select here file which you want to access File -> Application -> New Copy.

Step 5: Now, choose the new location of the NSF file and enter a new name.

Note: Uncheck the checkbox i.e Access Control List.

Step 6: Click on OK button to create a new NSF file. Now, open the new NSF file without any password.

Method 2: With the help of NSF Security Remover

Use this given tool to remove the security from the NSF files.

Step 1: Download the NSF security remover tool and then choose the NSF files from where you want to remove the password.

Step 2: Click on Remove Local Security and then select the location to save the file. Now, click on Save button to save the location.

Step 3: Choose the Undo changes option from Software interface to display a new dialog box that is Undo Changes.

Step 4: Click on Browse button in front of Select NSF database file to select the NSF file(s).

Step 5: Now, click on Undo change and here you will receive a message that is “Undo of the NSF files has been done successfully”.
