Out of the Blue Google Update: Businesses can Collect Leads Without a Website

Recently, Google added a huge eye-catching “Request a Quote” button to qualified business listings. The ones that show on the right-side panel in search results. It appeared out of nowhere.

A Twitter user, @JoyanneHawkins, who is Google My Business Product Expert and owner of Sterling Sky Inc, was the first to spot this update. She shared it on her Twitter handle.

And soon, people from all around the world started sharing their sightings of this recent update in the same Twitter thread.

This button also shows up in mobile search results for the branded keywords like Sterling Sky Inc.

Moreover, the people who are not logged in with their Google account won’t be able to see this button. The logic behind this being that clicking on the CTA would require pre-defined information like phone number, email address, etc.

After this update, the Businesses around the world are cashing on this update by adding the “Request a Quote” button to their listings. But this update is limited to certain business listings.

It’s available for the businesses that have opted for Google My Business messaging feature.

If you haven’t opted for messaging feature yet, then this is how you can do it:

  1. Open the Google My Business App
  2. Open the location you’d like to manage
  3. Tap on Customers
  4. Tap on Messages
  5. Tap on Turn on

Business owners can view and respond to messages from their customers from Google My Business app itself.

With this update, businesses can generate leads directly from their Google Business listing even if they don’t have a website.

Google has been criticized to keep the traffic on its search engine in the past and this update is giving the users convenience to request a quote without visiting the website.

Here, the brand’s name and reputation will play a major role.

Again, this depends on businesses and their end goals. It’s on the owners to determine whether this update will work in their favor or against it.
