DAY 4

We asked Summer to give us even more insight into her kids eating habits and how she does it…..

Do your kids eat all of that?

As you can see from Monday to Monday the size of each meal can vary. For the most part, yes, my kids do eat everything in their lunches and their School also allows a snack, which isn’t included in my weekly posts. So they have a lot of food choices.

When my kids want a snack after school they must present their lunch boxes to me. Our personal family rule is the vegetables, fruit, protein, and dairy must be eaten before choosing any addition foods. If it is not, during after school snack time when they are hungry again is the perfect time to continue to fuel their bodies with the nutritious foods I have already chosen for them. Any carbohydrates or sugars left in their lunches does not need to be consumed and a snack can be chosen.

Both of my children burn a lot of Calories daily. They have P.E. at school twice a week, and some recesses, and they playing outside at home almost everyday. In addition, they are currently playing lacrosse. My younger also has soccer skills class once a week during the school year. My older son will be joining the school track and field team this spring. Also both of my sons ski race and train from December to mid-April, and a week in the summer. For these reasons many calories go in their bodies. Not all children need this many calories, so plan according to your child’s needs — calories in and calories out.

Now for Today’s Bento Box:

Top left clockwise to bottom left: breakfast sausage links, yogurt tube, red bell pepper slices, slices of honeycrisp apple, EnviroKidz Gorilla Munch cereal, milk chocolate coin
