Mixing the Old With The New

January is a good month to clear out your closet and donate or sell old clothes; it’s also a great time to bring new items in. Vintage shopping is all the rage, with good reason. For a decently low price, you can score items from decades ago that are stylish, on trend, and super rare. While these statement pieces are awesome, they can sometimes be hard to style. Here’s a guide on mixing your old vintage pieces with new items for a look that is perfect.

50s

The fifties were all about prim and proper looks, with high waists, full skirts, and a ladylike feel. If you’re lucky enough to stumble across a high waisted, full circle Skirt with one of the darling prints from the 50s, styling the look to today’s age is easy. All you need are some black heels and a white blouse. These two staple pieces won’t drown out the vintage piece, only accentuate it and make it wearable every day.

70s

Get groovy and incorporate some corduroy into your wardrobe. Buy a modern corduroy skirt from the Haute Rogue shop, and pair it with a vintage seventies blouse. These shirts are flowing with flared sleeves and a natural vibe. Finish the look off with some knee high boots or wrap up sandals.

90s

Nineties is the time for grungy clothes and rugged nature. Getting your hands on an oversized, vintage jean Jacket from the nineties is a gold mine. This piece works with so many different outfits and will be your best friend in the fall and spring. You can through on a great graphic tee, leggings, and stylish sneakers and make your outfit instantly cool with the jacket on top. Or, take a girly sundress and contrast it with the rugged jacket for a balance look.
