The 7 Most Important Things To Have In Your Kid’s Wardrobe

It’s easy to run up a small fortune in clothing bills when it comes to dressing your chid. You want them to look their very best and that can easily mean you overdo it when it comes to shopping.

You only have to check online and you’ll millions of clothing options for children. There seems to be more choice for kids than for adults! Then you have the High Street too – even when you go out to do your grocery shopping, you’re surrounded by cute clothing options.

However, it’s important to try and cut down on the amount of things you buy and stick to the basics. Then, you can invest in good quality pieces that your child is actually going to get a good amount of wear out of. Remember, children grow at an alarming rate!

To help you out, let’s look at 7 essential items/categories you should have in your child’s Wardrobe. Then, you can start to streamline what they have and create a capsule wardrobe for any season.

SHOES
Of course, you need more than one pair of shoes. Children’s feet grow very quickly and they need to be supported and fit correctly. A good rule of thumb is to go for one pair of school shoes, a pair of dressy shoes for formal occasions, a pair of play shoes, such as sneakers, and a pair of summer shoes.

LONG SLEEVED TOPS
These are ideal for layering and can be staple colors or bright options for the spring and fall months. A total of five should be more than enough if you rotate them and wash a couple of times per week.

SHORT SLEEVED TOPS
You can easily layer a short sleeved top over a long sleeved one for cooler days. Of course, short sleeved tops are perfect for warm summer days and for when you’re in the house during the cooler months. Again five should be ample.

SWEATPANTS
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us all to move towards comfort but for kids, sweatpants are the ultimate in easy day wear. They’re ideal for playing, being in the house, and also heading out during the day. Three pairs should be enough on rotation. You can even throw in a pair of cargo pants to mix things up a little.

FORMAL WEAR
You might need to go to a wedding, a family occasion or another formal occasion that requires you all to dress up a little. Having two formal clothing options in your child’s wardrobe will see you through any occasion and also means that they’re not always wearing the same one item choice to every notable evening out.

WINTER COAT
It goes without saying that you need to make sure your child is warm and dry during those cold winter months. A good choice is a coat that has a detachable hood and perhaps sleeves that zip off to create a gilet. Flexibility is key in choosing the best winter coat for your child but one good quality option is all you need.

SHORTS
For the summer months, shorts are the perfect choice. They’re flexible, they can be dressed up or down and they’re easy to mix and match with long or short sleeved tops. A set of three shorts is a good choice, and make one pair denim to hit fashion highs every single year.

Of course, underwear and nightwear are other categories but those go without saying, right? If you want to add fashion and ease of wearing into your child’s wardrobe, these 7 essential item categories are your go-tos.
