What’s The Secret To A Happier Child? Here’s What The Experts Say

We all want our children to be happy and healthy. We know how to achieve the latter, through diet, exercise, and general health measures, but what about happiness? How can you make sure that your child is as happy as they can be?

It turns out that it’s actually not that difficult. Let’s check out how you can raise a happy child, according to the experts in the know.

Be Happy Yourself
Children learn by example. If you show your child that you’re able to live a happy life, avoiding negativity and smiling often, they’ll follow your lead. Of course, there will always be times when you feel less than happy yourself, but the key is that you Focus on the positives and show your child that even in adversity there is always a silver lining.

Show Them How to Have Strong Relationships
Children need to have a group of friends but they first need to know how to develop Strong Relationships. This doesn’t only mean making friends but also having strong relationships with other people, such as teachers, family members, etc. You can do that by showing them how to share, listen, communicate, and show empathy. That will help them to build relationships and allow them to grow.

Show Them How to be Grateful
When you practice gratitude, you become a happier person. You can see the positives in the darkness. You can teach your child to be grateful by doing it yourself. Again, children learn through what their parents do. Every day, talk about what you’re grateful for. It can be something big or small, such as being grateful for a sunny day or being grateful for a delicious dinner.

Teach Them to Talk About Their Feelings
All too often we’re told to push our feelings down and just get on with life. However, that doesn’t help when you’re struggling. Teach your child to talk about how they feel when they’re struggling and also when they’re happy. That helps them to develop emotional intelligence and we’ve seen time and time again that those who can manage their emotions are far happier.

Praise The Effort They Make
All too often we focus praise upon achievements, but sometimes we fall short of the mark but try our hardest anyway. Instead, focus on praising the effort your child puts in, rather than forcing them to assume that perfection is the way forward. Achievements are great, but if they try their hardest, surely that’s something to celebrate too?

These are just a few ways you can focus on raising a happier child. It’s not so hard, is it? Sometimes we assume that happiness is a huge target to reach for but in the end, it’s really just about gratitude, relationships, and celebrating effort.
