Best EDC Knife For The Money

Howdy again, most guys that I know carry an EDC (Every Day Carry) Knife, the reason is that pocket knives can be very useful in work or everyday life. I have a lot of different EDC knives but I wanted to share with you three of my favorite EDC knives that cost under $25. The purpose of this article is to help you decide which is the best EDC knife for the money.

In the old days, people relied on the use of big heavy knives which although useful proved cumbersome to carry around on a daily basis. The great thing about EDC knives is that you can comfortably carry them around as they are light in weight and they come bearing safety features to protect you from accidental injury. Here is my list of the best EDC knives on the market for under $25 from which you can choose a knife which best meets your needs.

KNIFE F-7531 Firebird

This is a good pocket knife for the price and has some features of more expensive knives.

Main Features

Versatility

If you love being in the outdoors, then you know how handy knives can be. This clip point knife is perfect for you as you can use it for a wide variety of tasks including; fishing, hunting, tourism purposes, travel, camping, and sports and for leisure activities. No matter what you are into, the Firebird has got your back.

Durability

Made of 440C stainless steel, this knife can be used in various environments without running the risk that the knife will rust when exposed to water. This assures you that you will not be returning it to the shop after a short while in search of a replacement. The blade is made of 440C steel and while it not as high quality steel as some of my other options.

Handling

The handle of this knife has been made using a composite material G10. In order to ensure the best quality has been achieved, fiberglass has been combined with epoxy resins to make a material that is quite easy to handle yet one that has strength that is almost equal to that of steel. There are some small textured waves across the handle which enable you to have a strong grip on the knife during use so as to prevent accidental slips. It also comes with a clip that you can use to fasten the knife into your pocket so it doesn’t fall out.

Weight

At 4.48 oz handling the knife is easy and it it also light enough to carry all day in your pocket.

Length

When open, this knife measures 8.2″ which is quite easy to handle. This means that the knife will be an average of four inches long when folded which makes it easy for you to carry the knife in your hand or in your pocket.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Light weight
  • Locking blade
  • Good edge
  • Durable

Cons

  • A little stiff to close when new
  • Does not retain edge as long as other knives with better steel

Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 Plainedge

This is my favorite out of the three options the Cara Cara 2 was already one of the best sellers in the Byrd line before the manufacturers decided to upgrade it features and offer it with improved standards at very reasonable prices. Some of the new features of this knife include a full flat ground blade which enhances the geometry and the cutting performance of the knife to improve your experience. This and other feature improvements have seen this knife become one of the most popular EDC knives on the market.

Main Features

Compact

A compact knife that offers convenience to the user so if you like traveling around with your knife, you will be happy to know that this knife is in your pocket. When fully opened, this knife has a length of 8.5″ which is more than adequate for most cutting purposes. Once you are done, you can just fold it up and slip it back into your pocket.

Light Weight

This knife has a very slim design and at 5.6 oz it is light enough to carry all day long.

Steel blade

The 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade measures 3.75″ in length which is a good length for a pocket knife. The blade comes with a hole that is shaped like a comet and it has gimping along the spine which is aimed at helping the thumb’s grip to be precise and comfortable in a way that helps you avoid accidental slipping.

This pocket knife comes with decent quality steel, the blade will retain it’s sharpness for a reasonable amount of time. Very minimal maintenance is required in maintaining this knife and you can look forward to its continued service for years to come.

Pocket clip

The wire type pocket clip has four positions which you can use, depending on the manner in which you wish to carry your knife. It also comes with a deep carry pocket clip which allows you to stuff the knife deep in your pocket so that you can carry it in a discreet manner.

Handling

The handle has been upgraded to include a textured surface on the FRN material, this provides much better grip than the previous version. The design of the blade makes it very precise when cutting, even when doing small tasks, but due to the blade length it also has a lot of cutting power when required.

Pros

  • Easy handling
  • Large blade
  • Durable
  • Locking blade
  • Four way pocket clip
  • Appealing design
  • Compact
  • Proven

Cons

  • Loose screws

Weight

This knife weighs only 4.3 oz, making it easy to carry.

Frame lock

This kind of lock enables you to use the knife without running the risk of the knife folding while in use as this can end up causing you injury.

Pocket clip

The pocket clip has four positions which you can use, depending on how you wish to carry your knife. It also comes with a deep carry pocket clip which allows you to stuff the knife deep in your pocket so that you can carry it in a discreet manner.

Length

The overall length of this knife is 6.5″ when open and 3.5″ when closed. This makes it quite easy to handle and carry.

Steel

The blade of the Cryo is made from 8Cr13MoV  stainless steel which enables the knife to retain a long lasting edge while providing strength and durability.

Pros

  • Fast opening
  • All metal construction
  • Four way pocket clip
  • Durable
  • Easy handling
  • Light weight
  • Locking blade

Cons

  • Coating may come off.
  • Small blade

Conclusion

All these knives can offer you reliable service for very many years provided that you carry out the required maintenance every now and then. Given their prices, it is amazing just how good the features of these knives are. It just goes to prove that quality is not dictated by the price of an item.

Though they are all very good knives, I would have to say that my pick would be the knife Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 which has a proven history and is backed by a top company, plus I prefer the longer blade which offers more flexibility.
