Lincoln Already Has Record Sales in 2017

The year 2017 is a good year for Lincoln Motor Company and not just because Matthew McConaughey returned to film more commercials for them. The grand unveiling of the New 2017 Lincoln Continental (after 14 years of silence) and the popularity of the 2017 Lincoln MKX and MKZ, seem to be contributing greatly to something that hasn’t since much improvement in the last 10 years – sales.

In the first month of 2017, Lincoln experienced their biggest month in sales since 2007, selling a total 8,785 vehicles in the last month. Lincoln’s January sales went up 22.4% from January 2016’s sales and they are giving credit to Lincoln four new additions to the lineup.

To get more specific, the Lincoln MKX experienced a sales growth of 42.7% year-over-year delivering 2,928 units in January 2017. The all-new Lincoln MKZ followed experienced a 7.4% increase year-over-year selling 2,090 models in the month of January. Then there is the 2017 Lincoln MKC, which sold fewer models than the MKX – 1,668 units – but experienced a 16.2% increase year-over-year.

Then there is the Lincoln Continental, which rose from the grave after being off the market for 14 long years. Since its launch, the Lincoln Continental has sold 6,428 vehicles in the United States but in the month of January, they sold 1,167 units which is double what the 2016 MKS did last January.

While the Lincoln Navigator and MKT decreased in sales, Lincoln SUV sales are up 17.4% in the month of January selling a total of 5,508 units. Lincoln is expecting to see a large spike in sales late in the year with the expected release of the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator.

Last year, Lincoln sold 111,724 Lincoln vehicles, which was a 10.4% increase for the automotive brand while other cars in the luxury market only increased by 1%. This gave Lincoln the best sales to date in the last nine years. Additionally, Lincoln also tripled their sales in China, selling 32,558 vehicles by the end of 2016.

“The moment is both gratifying and encouraging.“ Said Kumar Galhotra, President of Lincoln Motor Company. “We’re pleased clients are recognizing the superior experiences and vehicles Lincoln Offers.

While it seemed in the past Lincoln may be slowly fading as a brand, the sales beg to differ. The 2017 Lincoln Continental was probably the biggest contributor to the boost in overall sales toward the end of 2016, allowing for a 64% growth in the month of December. Alone, the Lincoln Continental went up 18% in December 2016 selling 1,845 Continental sedans outselling the Audi A6 and the Lexus GS.

If we could say so ourselves, the Lincoln Continental is the car setting the bar for all other luxury vehicles below $100k. Only a month into the year 2017, and the Lincoln Continental and swooped in to be a great motivation and superhero for the Lincoln brand.

It has already been an exciting year and an exciting few months for Lincoln.
