Self Image and the Power of Belief

Here’s some inspiration to make your weekend a bit more social.

I want to talk a bit about Belief, and how it has such an incredibly strong influence on your success, especially in dating.

There are actually 4 key beliefs that I think are crucial to developing your self confidence, charisma and dating life.

But let’s talk about the first one – the self image.

Modern psychology tells us that, inside your head somewhere, buried deep inside your subconscious mind, is an image of a man.

That man is your self-image, he’s your mind’s idea of who you are. And he exerts a great deal of power over your life.

Your self-image keeps you safe. It prevents you from doing silly, impossible or unwise things.

For example, if you friend challenges you to bench press 400lbs, your self image will step in.

Somewhere, in the back of your mind, your self image goes through the challenge you’ve been presented with, and predicts the results.

If your self-image thinks he can lift the weight he will let you accept the challenge.

If your self-image thinks he can’t lift the weights, if he’s humiliated, or injured, he won’t even let you try.

And so, your self image protects you from attempting things that will harm you.

But your self image also holds you back. It sets the upper limit of what you will even attempt to achieve, and so: you can never outperform your self image.

If your self-image thinks you can’t run a marathon, he won’t let you try.

If your self-image thinks you can’t date the cute girl at work, he won’t let you try.

If your self-image thinks you can’t get a better job, he won’t let you try.

And most importantly, you must always remember: your self-image is not you.

Sometimes, your self image is not even close to what you really are.

So, if you want to do something out of the ordinary this weekend, something that pushes you outside your comfort zone, the first step is to look at the man inside you, your self-image and make sure he knows that he can do it.

Belief in yourself is the first step towards any meaningful change, and often times it is the hardest part. So visualize yourself succeeding, visualize yourself deserving the kind of life you want to have, and suddenly the barriers to achieving those things won’t seem so bad.
