Wherever you go, spotting people online are very easy. These are the individuals whose eyes are glued to their tablets or smartphones and their fingers keep on tinkering. It seems they are distant from the real world as their focus is consumed by the little gadget in their hands.
Let’s admit it: with the accessibility of the Internet, our Social interaction has been decreasing. While hanging out with groups, people are always busy checking their phones instead of having a discussion. People do not say grace before meals, but instead take out their smartphones and take a pic of what they are going to eat and post it online. Women, and even men, take quite some time facing the mirror as they take gazillions of pictures before choosing a lucky photo to upload. We are all Social Media animals.
So, being Social Media Users, it would be great to classify people on how addicted they are to social media networks. According to a study, here are categories of our new age social media users.
- The Ultras
These are people who constantly check their news feeds for updates – relevant or not. Not a single minute is wasted as they hit the refresh button to check the latest posts, photos, or videos in their Social Media Accounts.
- The Dippers
Users who have social media accounts but take quite a time to update their posts are the dippers. Unlike the Ultras, they spend their time wisely on what’s important and check their social media accounts in rare occasions.
- The Deniars
They say that their lives do not revolve around their social media accounts, but they feel uncomfortable if they cannot access it. The denial of being addicted is present as they continue to make themselves believe that social media is not controlling them.
- The Barbarians
Let us just say that these are the people who do not have any accounts on social media. We can even call them barbarians of the modern age.
- The Lurkers
Stalking online can be pretty scary, but these lurkers find pleasure on it. They like being in forums or reading posts, but as much as possible, they do not engage in any of these exchanges. As their name suggests, they just observe what’s happening.
- The Ranters
Do you say a lot online? Do you usually rant or babble on your posts? Most ranters have a lot to say online but very little in person.
- The Peacocks
Social media is a popularity contest for them. They feed on Facebook likes, Twitter re-tweets, and Instagram re-posts. Like a peacock, they want attention as their bragging rights.
- The Ghosts
Alias is my name. Some people are too scared to give personal information to strangers in the social media world. Giving out your name is not that scary unless you include your address, credit card information and social security number.
- The Informers
Like the conquerors of countries in the early days, these people feel the happiest when they are the first to share about new stuff – restaurants, café, mall, and everything that they are a first.
- The Approval Seekers
Likes and replies are of the highest importance for these people. After a few seconds of uploading a post or a picture, they will refresh the page right away to see how many people have already liked it. Talk about addiction!
We are at least one of these ten people in social media. Who are you? Let us know!
