The New Facebook Algorithm Survival Tips

The recent Facebook’s change in its Algorithm made the process of getting to the top of the News Feed even harder and challenging for business owners especially small businesses that have lesser number of followers.  The new Algorithm gives the most priority to stories or posts that are Trending as soon as they occur, which means, when you post something that is currently a trending Topic on Facebook conversations, your post is more likely to go to the top of the news feed.

So what happens to posts that has no relevance whatsoever to the topic that is trending at the moment? Lost.  And the farther the relevance of your post from the trends, the lesser chances you get seen and discovered on the news feed.

But just before your post completely disappears into oblivion or before you can even contemplate into awkwardly forcing your contents to adapt to the Trending Topics, here are some helpful tips that you could utilize to break that barrier and be visible again to your target audience’s eyes:

·        Post as often as possible

I recommend 2-3 posts at separate timings daily, beyond this could result to having the most recent post thwarted your earlier posts. Given that each post is of outstanding quality and value, it would be a great shame if it doesn’t Reach the target audience.

·       Find the best time to post

Some articles would tell you to post at certain time of the day when your followers are most active. But you are the only one who could tell when your audience is most active. Check your business page’s insights and study the behavior of your audience. Find out the time that has the most number of reach and engagements, record it and test if you can get a consistent result out of it.

·        Share amazing contents the target audience want to see

It may not be the trending topic at the moment, but when a particular person finds your post interesting and worth-sharing, then you might have just started a topic that will soon becomes a trend on the social media world.

·         Include multiple pictures and videos in your post

Yes, because humans are visuals beings. People love images both still and moving, so if you’re thinking of catching a school of fish, you better have an abundance of baits.  Use quality, relevant pictures and videos that would go with your headlines or any information you wish to share on your Facebook business Page.

·       Use trending topics if possible

“Trending shows you a list of topics and hashtags that have recently spiked in popularity on Facebook. This list is personalized based on a number of factors, including Pages you've liked, your location and what's trending across Facebook.”  (Source: Facebook Desktop Help)

Trending topic changes every few hours, so keep yourself updated from time to time, in case you might find something related to your industry.  If you can find a way to tweak your content in a manner that it wouldn’t look forced, then go for it.

·        Check Facebook analytics to see what’s working

That Insight page on your Facebook account will show you weekly results of your performance.  Observe what kind of post got the most number of engagements, and then provide the same kind of post next time. Find out what your audience considers most interesting about your page or even the least interesting for them. It’s helpful to understand the behavior and common interests among your target audience to be able to provide them the right content which will make you the subject of their conversation.

·        Change profile and cover photo

Have you ever tried changing your profile or cover photo and get surprised with the overwhelming response from your friends and followers? Indeed, this is one effective way of getting noticed. Although it’s not really advisable to change your profile photo as frequent as possible, since it would usually contain the logo of your company which makes people recognize who you are or your brand, your cover photo, on the other hand, can change as frequent as once a month.

·       Boosts important posts from time to time

A boost on a post will allow you to reach more people which could get you a minimum estimated reach of 2000 per day.  But this feature is a paid option on Facebook.  You can select the number of days you wish to have your post boosted, and you only pay for those days.  You can try this option for selected posts which you think are highly important to reach your audience like special announcements, important updates about the company, and the likes.
