The 5 Important Characteristics of an Effective Call-To-Action

A Call-To-Action (CTA) is an essential element to an effective internet marketing strategy.

Marketers and business owners alike create numerous CTAs and locate them strategically around their site to generate leads and conversion.

CTAs are those standout buttons you see on websites, within contents, blogs, Email marketing, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google Plus, and other social media sites.

These buttons may read, “Click to Continue,” “Click Here to Learn More,” “Find Out Here,” “Request a Call,” “Get My Free Download,” just to name a few. And when a visitor click on one, he is transported to another page and gets exactly what the CTA promised him, perhaps some free downloads in exchange for some basic information, a direct link to a recently posted blog, or to a testimonial page.

Then after spending some time on your website because the CTA he just clicked led him to another landing page, he learned more about your products and some of you good offer.

Before you knew it, he’s already checked an item out and completed a purchase. And if he finds the experience satisfying, he will definitely share it to his friends.

That is how powerful a CTA can be. It can convert visitors to customers, and even into promoters.

To help you bring out the best in your CTAs so that it can provide you with profitable results, here are 5 important characteristics you must consider in creating them:

1.       CTA Draws The Attention of the Viewers

Make sure your CTA stands out from the rest of your website. But don’t overdo it. Too much animation or very colorful CTAs may just turn into a distraction instead of an attraction. A well designed CTA will definitely spark the interest of any visitors.

Provide a newsworthy CTA and position it well on your page so that people don’t have to scroll down to see it.

2.      It Clearly Tells The Viewers What Specific Action They Need to Do and What They Can             Benefit From It

You should never assume that your visitors know exactly what to do when they visit your site, that they could easily click through pages by simply reading titles and contents. In order to get the conversion you desire, you must lead your visitors towards that direction. Provide them instructions using clear, concise and specific CTAs.

It is important that you emphasize the actions they need to do in order to get the benefits your site can provide for them. A “call us now” or a “click here” are now but clichés. Be more specific and straight to the point.

3.      It Encourages Viewers to Respond Immediately

To do this, always start your CTA with the right verb. Think of an effective action word that will make your customers respond immediately. Test it to find out.

4.      It is Engaging and Compelling

Apart from having an attractive CTA, it’s also important that it is compelling enough to get the visitors provide the valuable data you will need to optimize your marketing strategies for maximum lead generation.

Create a CTA that implies the benefit they could get from doing a specific action, like in exchange for some free online items, all they have to do is fill out a form with some basic information about their company (i.e. contact details, business name, industry, comments/suggestions, etc.).

5.      It is Well Aligned to Its Landing Page

Do not confuse visitors by posting unrelated CTAs and landing pages. Other websites provide fascinating CTAs that arouse people’s curiosity but lead them to a completely irrelevant landing page. This may increase their click through rates, but what they don’t realize is that this technique does not help in generating conversion.

It is important to make sure that your CTAs are relevant to the landing page it is connected to.
