The social network is testing ways for creators to monetize content

Facebook officially launched its Gaming Creator Pilot Program, aimed at helping video game content creators build their audience on the social network.
In a Facebook Games blog post, Leo Olebe, global director of games partnerships at Facebook, listed the program’s focuses:
  • Helping gaming creators build more meaningful and more engaged communities on Facebook than anywhere else.
  • Increasing discovery and distribution across multiple surfaces, including Facebook.com, Instagram and Oculus.
  • Supporting gaming creators with the types of tools they need to make a living streaming games on Facebook.
  • Building a platform where creators at every level have the opportunity to thrive.
Every creator in the program will have access to special features, including the ability to livestream in 1080p/60 frames per second.

Facebook is also testing ways for creators to monetize their content by allowing fans to make payments during “select livestreams” on Facebook’s website. Olebe added, “Based on the results of our initial tests, we’ll expand our fan support monetization initiatives to more gaming creators, including participants in our initial pilot program.”
A number of new creators are being added to the program as part of its official launch, including Misses Mae, Doom49 and The Warp Zone. Existing members include StoneMountain64, who has more than 1 million Facebook followers.
Facebook will host an event Saturday to onboard the program’s newest members. A special livestream will also be hosted on the H1Z1 Facebook page, during which some of the creators will compete to be the last one standing in the popular battle royale video game.
Finally, Olebe said Facebook will make gaming content creators a “centerpiece” of its presence at games industry events going forward, beginning at PAX East in April.
