Instagram: How To Get People To Press Follow

Instagram is a constant battle on who has the most Followers.

When it comes to Instagram everyone wants to have the so-called ‘insta fame’ status. Which really isn’t that easy to achieve considering that Instagram has over 100 million active users and over 41 million images are being posted a day.

However, it’s not impossible. All you have to do is to follow a few steps and you’ll notice instant changes – trust me.

1. First of all, connect your Facebook account

Step 1 after creating your account is to link it with Facebook. By linking the platforms your friends will be notified that you use it too, which can easily gain you a few new followers.

You will also be able to share your Instagram pics on Facebook with just one click.

2. #Always #hashtag

Instagram allows users to use up to 30 hashtags per post, so why do I still see people who don’t use them? There is no shame! Hashtags are super important and will allow you to be seen by more users, which will gain you, new followers, instantly.

To use them effectively you will need to use relevant ones. For example, if you are a London based Italian style restaurant use hashtags like these: #restaurant #londonrestaurant #italianrestaurant #italianrestaurantlondon #foodporn #foodie.

People genuinely look up hashtags to find new locations, places, people and cute cat accounts. Use it to your advantage.

3. Filter like there’s no tomorrow

A study has actually proven that those who use filters receive more likes than those who don’t. That alone speaks for itself really, right? Also, filters can save any bad picture. Bad lighting? Put a filter over it and enhance the brightness or darkness and there you go, an Instagram-appropriate picture has been taken.

Additionally, use external apps like afterlight. Apps like that have a much wider range of filters than Instagram does.

4. Take good quality photos – Have a ‘Feed’

Don’t be that person who still uploads blurry pics to Instagram, it’s 2017 and phones are capable of pretty impressive things now. I know many people who just use their phone for Instagram images and they look insanely good.

Just make sure the lighting is okay and that it’s not too dark or overexposed. Look out for little things in the background too, make sure it’s not overcrowded and aim for aesthetically pleasing images.

Instagram is an image sharing platform, so this should be your number 1 priority. Many accounts also have a feed that is either colour coordinated or they use the same filter, try to stay consistent and don’t just upload randomly. Make sure it all looks good together.

5. Understand your demographics

If you really want to start taking Instagram serious it might be a good idea to really look at your followers. What is their location? Age? Gender? TIMEZONE? You might be based in the UK, but that doesn’t mean that all of your followers are too.

If they most of them are based in a different timezone, it might be beneficial to also post a few images at a later time. This way you will show up on their timeline again and they might keep an eye out for you. Also with the new algorithm, it’s all about popularity so you definitely want your followers to see your content for high engagement which equals brownie points for Instagram popularity.

6. Ask questions

I love a good call-to-action and it’s gonna make me want to engage more. Why? I don’t really know. But that’s not the point, the point is that people will engage more if there is a well-integrated call-to-action.

We all know engagement is key when it comes Instagram, as it will give you more exposure and the more exposure the better. Be creative, witty and show some personality with your captions.

7. Engage, Engage, Engage

Don’t just expect everyone to comment on your images, make sure to also like and comment on the pictures of your followers – Get your name out there. Take around 10 minutes a day to just comment and like, pick accounts that are similar to yours of course.

Trust me when I say you’ll see a big difference in a few days or maybe even hours.

Little Tip, always reply to comments. This way you can start conversations and grow your relationship with your followers.

8. Follow accounts similar to yours

Take the initiative and go on a little following spree like once a week maybe – or just as often as you want really. So, you don’t just want to follow any accounts. Find accounts that are related to yours through hashtags and then follow them. The result will be new followers in your niche, perfect!

But don’t be that person who then unfollows everyone again – read here why people unfollow on Instagram.
