Let’s take a look at the five step process on applying to Universities abroad –
Step 1 : Research Your University Selections
The first and foremost step is to research about the universities or colleges you wish to apply. The best way is to you should split up your applications:
• Apply to a University/college that has slightly better grades and scores than yours. Firstly, read in detail and then apply as everything has a cost.
• Apply to a University/college that has scores and grades that are in line with the ones that you have.
• Apply to a University/college that is happy to take you in and scores are way below your achieved ones. Keep this as your backup option
Step 2 : Gather Information required to apply
Keep phone number, email id, details of contact person, student relationship executive, visa agent, counselor in a proper folder so that you can easily find them. You can even watch the instructional video on how to apply online.
Step 3 : Give Eligibility Tests
There are various tests that one requires to give for applying abroad. As a student, you have to give at least one English proficiency tests as a mandatory requirement along with the standardized tests of the university required for admission.
Expected scores for your tests actually should be :
• A general score of above 2,000 works for the SAT
• A band of around 5.5 – 7.0 will do for your IELTS
• 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based) for the TOEFL
• Roughly 158-160 (for your Quant/math), 149-153 (in your verbal) and 3.8 – 4.0 for the GRE
• A score ranging from 550 and above for the GMAT
These will vary from college to college so always run a check on the university website to know their exact requirements
Step 4 : Apply
If you have all scans and documents ready, then it will not require much time to apply online.
• Do not leave any section blank. Complete all the sections of the application.
• Review and Re-review your program selections before clicking “I Verify and Agree”.
• Record the Reference Number along with your password which you will receive after making the payment and keep it in a safe place. You will require this number for future access to your application.
• Submit your Statement of Purpose and Letter of Recommendation
Step 5 : Post Application Process
• Log in to your online application after one business day to check the status.
• Email is the primary mode of communication for the universities as you will get an acknowledgement from them about your application.
• Acceptance or refusal will also be informed through email only.
