Navroz Mubarak: 8 Parsi Restaurants In Mumbai

The members of the Parsi community in India and many parts of the world, are celebrating their new year on Wednesday.

Starting your day with some delicious Sali Par Edu and savouring mouth-watering Dhansak is a must. Luckily, Mumbai – the famous Parsi den, is dotted with charming Parsi and Irani food places. For those Mumbaikars who can’t cook Parsi delicacies, we bring you the best places to enjoy those authentic dishes..

Café Military, Fort

In the warren of bustling business district of Fort, Café Military is a no-frills café. However, it specialises in all manner of Parsi comestibles. The ambience is simple with the antique wooden panels and mirrors, bentwood chairs, glass-topped tables and round wooden clock. The restaurant was opened in 1933 and is known for dishes like Hearty Chicken Dhansak, Kheema Pao and Milky Caramel Custard.

Britannia & Co., Fort

Operates only in lunch from 12 pm to 4 pm, Britannia & Co. knows all about Parsi food. This one is perfect to try delicious and authentic Parsi cuisine. The small eatery has a beautiful rustic ambiance and a treasure trove of good food. Go for their staples, including Dhansak, Berry Pulav, Biryani, SaliBoti and Caramel Custard and Raspberry Soda.

Jumjoji, Bandra

South Mumbai has loads of Parsi restaurants and one of the popular ones is Jumjoji. Lovely ambiance, looking at which we can make out that it was definitely designed by a person with a great sense of humour. Visit the place and don’t miss their Chicken Seekh Kebab, Salli Boti, Lagan Nu Achar, Curry Rice and Parsi Mutton Kheema.

Ideal Corner, Fort
Buzzintown

If you’re somebody who craves for home-cooked meal, Ideal Corner is your perfect den to be at. This motorcycle garage turned café serves mouth watering delicacies at supremely reasonable rates. However, go early as usually lunch hours are a mad rush. Patra Ni Macchhi, Salli Boti, Atheli Chicken Masala, Mutton Cutlet Gravy and Chicken Farcha are their must-haves.

Paradise, Colaba

This small eatery in Colaba is blink-and-miss joint. While visiting be careful about its location. Regulars swear by its Dhansak Dal, though Curry Rice, Buccaneer’s Delight and  Mutton Gosht are not-to-be-missed too. The restaurant sees loads of celebrities, but boy don’t let it distract you. Food is really good and you’ll definitely enjoy each and every bite.

Jimmy Boy, Horniman Circle

Jimmy Boy promises Parsi food in a packed flavour. From the seasoned hero, Patra ni Machhi and Saas ni Machhi to Dhansak and Dhandal Patio, Jimmy Boy serves everything. They also an exclusive counter for quick grabs. Try out their Tea Cake, Mawa Cake, Vegetarian and Chicken Crust Patties, Mushroom and Cheese Quiche, Dhansak and Chutney Cold Slaw Sandwich.

Yazdani Bakery, Fort

Small and quaint Irani bakery opened by Meherwan Zend in 1953, Yazdani Bakery is now running by the third generation. They are known for their white buns and butter which taste best when dipped into a hot chai. Try their apple pie and the crispy khari biscuits.

Koolar & Co., Matunga East

Tucked in the corner of Matunga Circle, this vintage Irani cafe serves luscious hot Keema Pao which is enough to make your day. Though at first glance place looks small and old, interiors are amazing. Interior is decked up with vintage telephone, lamp and wall cock along with vintage posters of ‘Grease’ John Travolta and Dolly Parton. So, if you’re tired listening that Parsi restaurants are only in South Mumbai, visit this one and try Omelettes, chicken cutlets, Brun Maska and tea and Keema pao for breakfast.
