After former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Goa to form a BJP state government, the floor test ordered by Supreme Court is being conducted which will confirm whether BJP will form government or the Congress. Both BJP and Congress are confident they will secure the majority in the floor test.
Congress had petitioned the apex court, stating that since Congress had a slight lead in the Goa assembly elections, it should have had the first opportunity to form government in the state, as compared to BJP which allied with other parties in Goa to form majority.

Parrikar had been sworn in on March 14 with the support of 22 legislators, crossing the halfway mark of 20 in the 40 member assembly. While 9 other ministers were sworn in alongside Parrikar, he has said that he would distribute the portfolios to the concerned ministers after proving majority in the floor test.
