Chandni Chowk Blast Likely Caused By Fireworks

The explosion that occurred in a narrow lane of Naya Bazaar in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday morning which killed one and injured two others, was caused by a blast outside a firecracker godown police said.

The explosion which was captured on CCTV footage took place not far from where firecrackers are sold in bulk for Diwali.

CCTV footage showed people on the lane, almost all of them males, running away from the blast site in panic.

In no time, security forces threw a cordon in the area.

“We have not identified the injured and the deceased. The samples of explosive have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory,” Joint Commissioner of Police Virender Singh Chahal said.

Windowpanes of the surrounding buildings were damaged due to the impact of the explosion.
