The reeds in Lake Hamun once used to be the material of mat-weaving for the people of this land. However, due to the drought in recent years, people provide the reeds from the northern provinces of the country.
Mat-weaving as one of the main handicrafts of Sistan and Baluchestan plays a decisive role for the families to make a living. Sistan and Baluchestan’s mats are used as insect screens at the entrance of the houses while some others decorate the exterior windows of the buildings.
